Race 1: Wellington Racing Club (1200m)

Note – Kobayashi showed speed to sit outside the favourite Plutocracy, put the pressure on him on the turn and forged away leaving the runner-up with no excuses. Banish tracked them to the bend, pulled across their heels and ran on without threatening.

Race 2: Hyderabad Racing Club (1800m)

Life Less Ordinary (1st): couldn’t have made a more impressive Australian debut and you’d think he will only get better as he acclimatises. He has won at two miles and might be one to remember for later in the year.

Note – no excuses for anything as Life Less Ordinary rounded them up after settling midfield on the fence. He only got stronger as the race unfolded and reeled in the leader Zahspeed to win running away. Overberg responded to pressure on the turn to get up for second. Wouldn’t sack Rockstar Rebel just yet, he does lack gears though.

Race 3: buyaracehorse.com.au Handicap (1600m)

Note – very much an on pace dominated race with Sword Of Light riding the speed before dashing away around the turn. She safely held favourite Toffee Nose at bay while Mrs Gardenia finished off well to get up for second ahead of Toffee Nose who had every chance.

Race 4: Galilee Series Final (2400m)

Note – this race changed complexion quickly midrace when Parthesia took off from the back and put the pressure on. She kicked away around the turn but the effort told on her and she was a sitting shot. Lycurgus pushed eventual runner up Miss Strathallan out of the way on the bend and finished over the top to win.

Race 5: Sandown Park Handicap (1000m)

Malibu Style (2nd): WA sprinter having first Melbourne start. Came off the bit before the turn but rallied strongly and was finishing better than anything late to grab second. Will improve on this fresh effort.

Note – Crystal Dreamer continued his solid first-up record. Always up on the speed, took over about 300m out and put the race away before Malibu Style pulled some late ground. Bullpit led them and boxed on pretty well to hold third.

Race 6: Selangor Turf Club Handicap (1200m)

Toy Boy (2nd): only having his second start and inexperience may have cost him. Well back in the ruck, weaved into the clear about 300m out after looking under pressure then rocketed home to miss narrowly.

Note -the consistent Ken’s Dream overcame a tardy start to arrive just in time and snatch victory off Creativity, who looked the winner 100m out, and then held off the fast finish of Toy Boy.

Remainder of the meeting abandoned.
