Trevor Lawson’s Derby Day Quaddie: 2017

Quaddies don't get any bigger than this - three Group 1s (Victoria Derby, Myer Classic and Kennedy Mile) and the Group 2 Multiplier Stakes as the lucky last.

Derby Day quaddie tips

No weather to worry about. Will get the track walker’s report this afternoon but expecting it to play even.

Race 6 Myer Classic – 1600m

Haven’t tidied this race up yet for barrier penalties and a couple of other things but its looking like $9 the field.

#2 Global Glamour (Clark / Waterhouse & Bott)
Held on well to win 1st up over 1400m. Unbeaten at 1600m. Maps well.

#3 Foxplay (McEvoy / Waller)
Rated slightly down last start. Previous runs in Sydney were good. Can bounce back here.

#4 I Am A Star (Dunn / Nichols)
Won this race last year as a 3yo filly. Returned to form last start at MV. Maps well.

#5 Silent Sedition (Mallyon / Noblet)
Caught wide last start on speed. Third up here. Should be ready to peak and map looks good.

#8 Dixie Blossoms (Brown / Quinton)
Consistent Sydney filly who has good record at this trip. Will be thereabouts.

#10 Prompt Response (Shinn / Waterhouse & Bott)
Fought on well last start over this trip at first try. Should be fitter again. Can maintain rating.

#14 Now Or Later (Williams / Smerdon)
Terrific win here over 1400m two starts ago. Got too far back from wide barrier last start. Maps better here. Has won over this trip earlier in career in Ireland.

#16 Shoals (Yendall / Freedman)
Only 3yo filly in the race. Ran 2nd to boom 3yo filly Aloisia in the Thousand Guineas. That’s solid enough form for this.

Race 7 Victoria Derby – 2500m

#1 Ace High (Angland / Payne)
Won the Spring Champion Stakes in Sydney over 2000m. Jumps up in trip a slight concern off a month’s break.

#2 Tangled (Shinn / Waller)
Ran 2nd to Ace High in Spring Champion then battled away honestly last start at Caulfield over 2000m. Gets winkers on here.

#3 Astoria (Lane / Cummings)
Had no luck in Spring Champion Stakes before running on well in Geelong Derby Trial. Looks likely to get the trip.

#5 Main Stage (Walker / Busuttin & Young)
Impressive here two starts ago over 1800m when ran on hard in quickly run race. Bit flat-footed last start at Caulfield on slower tempo. Will get back from the barrier. Looks to need speed on.

#6 Sully (Bowman / Busuttin & Young)
Worked home well in Spring Champion Stakes after getting too far back. Looks likely to run the trip. Wide barrier a slight concern.

#7 Weather With You (Baker & Forsman)
Terrific effort in Geelong Derby Trial when best of on-pacers holding on to win. Does race keenly but will need to settle here.

#11 Ocean’s Fourteen (Nolen / Purcell)
Ran 2nd to Weather With You at Geelong when up 600m in distance from previous run. Should strip fitter here.

#12 Greycliffe (Childs / Cumani)
Similar profile to Ocean’s Fourteen. Jumped sharply in trip last start when completely walked in. Looks progressive type.

Race 8 Kennedy Mile – 1600m

#1 Tosen Stardom (Lane / Weir)
Won the Toorak hitting the line hard off a solid tempo. Can maintain that rating here.

#5 Tom Melbourne (Boss / Waller)
Terrific runs in Sydney earlier this prep against some good horses. Then fought on well in fast run Toorak before tiring late. Looks the only speed in this race. The one to beat.

#10 Sovereign Nation (Bayliss / Hayes & Dabernig)
Ran well last start behind Tosen Stardom. Has a good record at this trip. Should get a good run from inside draw.

#12 All Our Roads (Lloyd / Waller)
Ran on well from well back 2nd up. Steps to 1600m 3rd up here and has a good record at the trip. Can sit closer from inside draw.

Race 9 Multiplier Stakes – 1200m

#1 Illustrious Lad (Darmanin / Gelagotis)
Won this race last year. Ran well 1st up at Caulfield and only has to hold rating here.

#2 Keen Array (Zahra / Hayes & Dabernig)
Handles the straight. Racing consistently of late. Has claims.

#8 Bons Away (Meech / Purcell)
Ran well last start down the straight. Has been up a long time but looks to be holding form. Only has to hold rating here.

#9 Ravi (Mcevoy / Snowden)
Won nicely 1st up then no luck at Caulfield. Has been given 6 week break since. Races well fresh

#11 Rich Charm (Moloney / Clarke)
No luck 1st up at Caulfield then hit the line strongly 2nd up. Has produced peak rating this track and distance in the past. Should be ready to run to best.

#14 Sweet Sheery (Callow / Stanley)
Not a lot of luck at either run this prep. Good record this trip. Can improve here.

So a bunch of wide open races as you can see. This quaddie is 8x8x4x6 = 1728. Which means
$100 gets you 5.7%.
