Group 1 Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m) $1,250,000

Race 6 Flemington, 3:15pm Saturday

Speed Map
It’s a bit of a funny map. Most of the speed is inside. Lord Of The Sky should lead, with Thornum and Booker racing handy.

#1 Redkirk Warrior (Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig / Regan Bayliss)
Barrier 15, 57.5kg
Won this race last year. Rises 5kg on that. Resumed by winning the Lightning with a blistering finish and has a terrific record down the straight.
#2 Brave Smash (Darren Weir / Craig Williams)
Barrier 2, 56.5kg
Won over 1400m last start. Maps okay here, first run down the straight is a slight query.
#3 Lord Of The Sky (Robbie Laing / Kathy O’Hara)
Barrier 1, 52.5kg
Won first up at this track and distance in weaker class. Was unlucky 2 starts back over the 1400m, prepared to risk here.

#4 Rich Charm (Udyta Clarke / Patrick Moloney
Barrier 5, 52.5kg
Has a terrific record down the straight. Was unlucky resuming, goes well second up, this looks like a target race.

#5 Rock Magic (Chris Gangemi / Damian Lane)
Barrier 6, 52.5kg
Ran okay in the Lightning and has been thereabouts in most Victorian runs, but does find it hard to win.

#6 Supido (Michael Kent / Beau Mertens)
Barrier 14, 52.5kg
Ran on nicely first-up in the Lightning, has a good record down the straight and will get home hard late.
#7 Thronum (Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig / Michael Dee)
Barrier 7, 52.5kg
Won well at the Valley when resuming off a short break, then ran well in Group 1 1400m at Caulfield. Will race on the pace, has definite claims.
#8 Fastnet Tempest (Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig / Ben Allen)
Barrier 10, 52kg
Resumes from spell. Had three Australian runs last prep, all over longer distance. Prefer others.
#9 Ken’s Dream (Darren Weir / Dean Yendall)
Barrier 8, 52kg
Good record down the straight, but think it lacks the class to win at Group 1 level.
#10 Lucky Liberty (Henry Dwyer / Chris Parnham)
Barrier 13, 52kg
Ran nicely first-up of a short break. Injury-plagued galloper who may have missed its chance to win a Group 1.
#11 Merchant Navy (Aaron Purcell / Chad Schofield)
Barrier 4, 52kg
Produced a huge finish in spring to win the Coolmore, and hit the line well first-up running terrific sectionals. Looks a target race.
#12 Missrock (Robbie Laing / Craig Newitt)
Barrier 11, 52kg
Ran on okay first up in the Lightning, but just lacks the class to win a Group 1.
#13 So Si Bon (Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig / Michael Walker)
Barrier 12, 52kg
Resumes for new trainer. Has been tried over all distances… your guess is as good as mine!
#14 Booker (Ellerton & Zahra / Ben Thompson)
Barrier 3, 50kg
Won well first-up at Caulfield, then put in a terrific run in the Oakleigh Plate when caught wide. Maps well and has run well down the straight before. Has definite claims.
#15 Catchy (Hayes, Hayes & Dabernig / Cory Parish)
Barrier 9, 50kg
No luck first-up in the Oakleigh Plate, missing the start and working home well. Has won well down the straight and is unbeaten second-up. Should improve.

Trev's Tip

This is a really wide open race. I don’t have much between Redkirk Warrior, Brave Smash, Merchant Navy, Rich Charm and Booker.

looks well overs for mine.
