Runners to watch: Randwick, June 10th

Shane Adair's race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Randwick.

Race reviews – Randwick, June 10th 2017

Race 1 – Club Redfern Plate (1000m)

Note – Only a field of four faced the starter and the short priced favourite Champagne Cuddles won in a canter and seemed to really relish the heavy conditions. Lipizzan was very green in running second and will be improved by that effort. They beat the other two easily.

Race 2 – Anderson Handicap (1100m)

Note – Well tried Memes in betting won well and continued her very good preparation, now winning three from four, also continuing her impressive record on rain affected tracks. In Times Of War was every chance in running second, however the first two did beat the rest of field comfortably. Cadogan I’m happy to forgive: easy in betting and didn’t go a yard on the heavy track.

Race 3 – TAB Highway Handicap (1000m)

Clipper (1st) – This odds-on favourite settled three-wide in the run, into the straight she let down very sharply to put pay to them in a couple of bounds and won going away on the line. Now a winner of four from six and will be winning better races than she met today. Loves the wet tracks so keep following.

Note – Nictock although soundly beaten wasn’t too bad for the first time on a heavy track and being first with the step up in class. Fitter for that and can win again in the right grade.

Race 4 – Stayers Cup (3200m)

Note – Don’t spend much time on this event with the minimal 3200m events we have. Broadside seems to be a bit one paced in 2000m+ events, as he was every chance again. Soviet Courage was disappointing and should never start that short in any race. Would be happy to lay anything at a short quote coming out of this event.

Race 5 – Heard Agency Handicap (2000m)

Nettoyer (1st) – Wowee, sat three wide for the trip and let down like a top horse and won by 10 lengths. Yes, she didn’t beat much and yes, the heavy track does exaggerate the margins but she was excellent today. Only start number three and still on the up. Keep following

Race 6 – Pemulwuy Handicap (1400m)

Note – Heavenly Anna won well after sitting wide in the run, she is fit, racing well and loves the wet tracks. Dagny was every chance in the race when running second. Lani Girl made good late ground and will be further improved in fitness.

Race 7 – AHC June Stakes (1800m)

Note – The Monstar won with a leg in the air by almost six lengths. He really enjoys the wet tracks and can be followed through the winter. Kudero was good again after being trapped wide and hitting the line well. Nothing else made any ground up the straight.

Race 8 – South Juniors Handicap (2000m)

Note – Winner Wildflower grinded it out best to score at good odds making it back to back wins. A good bounce back to form with Loving Home who seems to appreciate wet tracks in running second. Favourite Curragh was every chance and check stewards report with Nothing Box who dropped out sharply before the turn.

Race 9 – One Solutions Handicap (1400m)

Note – Queesnland visitor Stella Ombra got the job done in the last winning at $12 in a tight finish. Clear The Bench continued up with his good first up form and should be further improved. Star Reflection made good steady ground in the straight and although up for a while is continuing to hold her solid form.
