Runners to watch: Rosehill, August 26th

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Rosehill.

Race reviews: Rosehill, August 26th

Race 1 – TAB Highway  (1100m)

Note – An all the way win for Mossman Gorge who worked early but was able to hold off the fast finishing Nic’s Vendetta who hit the line well  to just miss the winner, he continues to run well at this level. Lifesaver was heavily backed ($2-$1.6) and had a nice run behind the winner held up for a moment in the straight however had his chance. These three came right away from the rest of the field.

Race 2 – Pro it Handicap (1500m)

Note – Mariquita won well after sitting well back in the run, well ridden by Rachel King who kept her out of trouble. Pleasing part was her last 100m where she was strong to the line. Awoke in second was a goof run after being trapped wide and forced to roll forward. She held on well for second. Chautuchak lead and was every chance holding on to third place after leading at just a steady tempo

Race 3 – ASX Thomson Reuters Charity Foundation Handicap (1100m)

Note – Tango Rain who went quickly in the lead to hold them off in the straight to record a good strong victory. Well tried Marsupial ran a good race race into second sitting off speed and working to the line. Isorich held on for a tough third after being caught in the chasing position to Tango Rain. Thought Pumpkin Pie ran a solid race and Improvement just got to far back and looked never likely.

Race 4 – Pacific Boating Handicap (2000m)

Note –  The heavily backed Alward got in at the short quote…just! Had a nice run in transit and was just able to pick them up in the straight. Chatelard was very good in second, took off early as the speed went out of the race and only just went down. Nat King Cu in third was also excellent on pace and can pick up another in a lower class based on that effort. Quick Defence in fourth did his standard thing working to line well again without ever looking the winner

Race 5 – New Caledonia Travel Connection Premier’s Cup Handicap (1900m)

Note  – Big result with $41 shot Dee I Cee winning in by over 2 lengths.  It’s a case of the usual suspects in the placings. Classic Uniform who was well supported ran very well into second after being caught pace battle up front. Broadside was caught wide early then pushed forward however offered little in the straight. I am willing to forgive that effort. Not a race to get too excited over

Race 6 – Monaco Cup – Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m)

Note –  Strong win by Addictive Nature who did it at both ends  after leading at a good pace and kicking strongly to hold on. Assimilate also ran a top race being a clear last on the turn and rattling home to just miss. Astoria ran on soundly however every chance into third. The first two across the line are very good!

Race 7 – TPG Telecom San Domenico Stakes (1100m)

Note – They went quickly in this which set it up for the backmarkers. Pariah got the job down after a good ride from Blake Shinn and was well tried. Very talented horse and more wins in store. Chauffeur ran on well to claim second from well back in the field. Jorda should of finished closer after being held up half down the straight. Did a good job to finish third. Speed Street although unplaced did battle on ok after setting a strong speed early.

Race 8 – Lindt  Handicap (1500m)

Note – Special Missile did it again! Sitting just behind the leader and never looked like losing. That’s now 5 in a row and in slick time of 1.29 for 1500m! Mapmaker was well tried was sound into second however every chance. The Pharoah held onto third after setting a strong early pace. I’m happy to forgive Hogmanay who was slow away and shuffled back along the fence.

Race 9 – Fiig Handicap (1200m)

Note – Bonny O’Reilly won well after having a dream run in transit behind the speed and sneaking along the fence to win. She’s a winner! No Doubt sound into second after sitting behind the hot speed. Supreme Effort worked to the line solidly for third. Selita, Sir Plush were in a speed battle setting the early tempo and probably can both be forgiven for those efforts as they went quickly
