Shane Adair's race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Rosehill.

Race reviews: Rosehill, July 15th

Race 1 – #THERACES Handicap (1400m)

Siege Of Quebec (1st) – Jumped well to take up the lead at a steady clip. Turning for home the run appeared Calculated who headed him however under strong rider responded to win. There was a big gap back to third so I dare say second has some ability to. He will be winning more races this well bred colt.

Note – Two horse war down the straight with both favourites fighting it out, Calculated who ran second was good in defeat and looks to have some ability. I wouldn’t be looking to much further back than the first two

Race 2 – Book Spring Hospitality @ (1350m)

Insensata (1st) – Excellent victory, settled well back in a race of moderate tempo. Hoking out to the middle of the track down the straight unleashed a powerful finishing burt to win going away. That’s makes it 2 in a row and can continue to be followed this preparation.

Note – Punters got it right again in race 2 with the favourites going ½ again. Girl Sunday who was sent out favourite and was solid in running second, just found one to good today, Pioneering was disappointing on face value, may want to check the stewards report there. All other runners had their chance

Race 3 – TAB Highway Handicap (1100m)

Note – Buddy Honest was to good leading from barrier to box on the quick back up. Star Aspiration sound in second however every chance. Both Our Finvarra & Bulala were noticed make late ground without threating the winner. Favourite Cosmic Reign was every chance in running 4th.

Race 4 – Pro Rata ATC Membership Handicap (1800m)

Arbeitsam (2nd) –  Very brave in defeat, ran along at a good clip in the lead and kicked strongly at the turn to put 3-4 lengths on them, was just ran down in the shadows of the post. Very good effort for first attempt at the trip. Can continue to be followed

Note – Winner was Vaucluse Bay at each way oddswho was good in wearing down the ran away leader. Of the beaten bridge Walk The Streets was ok hitting the line, just got to far back. High Mist was disappointing on face value and eased down in the final 200m, check stewards report

Race 5 – McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (1500m)

Note  – Pick Me Up was well ridden to land the prize after getting the run after a midfield run, Mana was every chance in running second. Clear The Beach set a good tempo and held on well for third. Favourite Faith’s Encore missed the kick and ran on well late to just miss the placings. Sonic Swish did very little however will be improved with that run

Race 6 – Winning Post Restaurant Handicap (1200m)

Note – The good speed ensure the backmarkers could get home and winner Washington Heights did best finishing hard to win well. The ex-Hong Kong galloper looks to have come back well. Sir Plush was favourite and good in running second after sitting on the speed. Happy to forgive Top Striker who sat 3 wide on a hot speed, ready to peak next start

Race 7 – ATC Winter Stakes (1400m)

Note – Exciting finish with only 2 lengths covering the first 10 across the line. Winner Slightly Sweet got the bob in after settling back and hitting the line well at a big price. Happy to forgive Burning Passion & Classic Uniform who were wide in the run also favourite Gold Symphony who was held up in the straight

Race 8 – Schweppes Handicap (2000m)

Note – Speed was good here again with Collateral continue his excellent preparation winning again from being midfield on the turn. The Gavel was very good running second sitting forward on a good speed. Life O’Brien a solid third after looking the winner at the 200m. Favourite Estikhraaj was only fair running on ok from back in the field.

Race 9 – Handicap (1500m)

Note – Hunter Jack was too good, sat out the favourite on the pace and kicked strongly to win well. Both Queen Misty & It’s So Obvious solid filling the placings however both had every chance. Favourite Flow was disappointing finishing unplaced along with Reneged who saw daylight at the right time however could make no impact on Hunter Jack.
