Race reviews: Rosehill, June 3rd

Race 1 – TAB Handicap (1200m)

Note – Silence at $12 was just a little too tough for them, holding on to win in a good effort. Intrinsic was a touch unlucky in the straight being held up for a run, however did get out in time to win the race. Last Starfighter at big odds missed the start and ran on well into third. Other fancied runner Revenire was every chance when running into 5th.

Race 2 – ATC Membership on sale sprint (1200m)

Faraway Town (4th) – First-up and settled last in the run. With the slow tempo of the race had minimal chance to win from its position, however took many lengths off the winner down the straight and looks to have come back in good order.  Keep following.

Note – Hot pot New Universe raced wide without cover and was always going to find it hard to win with the slow pace, I’m happy to forgive but was a disappointing effort. It’s a case of the more they win, the longer the price with Test The World, who won making it three in a row this preparation and continues to race well.

Race 3 – Schweppes Handicap (1500m)

Note – Not a race to get overly excited about.  The warm favourite Dagny was disappointing after settling back off a good speed. The winner Cottage wants a dry track, now has made it 4 from 6 on the dry surface. That’s the key to him.

Race 4 – TAB Highway Handicap (1400m)

Zamex (1st) – Settled a long way back in the run after jumping away slowly. On the swing for home made a long sustained run along the fence to pick up the leader and win quite soft in the end, eased down. At peak fitness and ready to win more races.

Note – Call The Captain battled away well for second after sitting forward on a good speed, can win again shortly in the right class. Cliff was noticed making steady late ground and can win around the bush again soon.

Race 5 – McGrath Estate Agents Handicap (1500m)

Note – 0.7 lengths separated the first four across the line, and favourite Just Dreaming was just a little too strong at the end after sitting just behind the leader.  Both Uptown Lad & Walk The Streets made good ground up the straight to fill the minor placings, and look ready to win again soon.  Will not be looking too much further back than those three in what was an average race.

Race 6 – Handicap (1200m)

Note – In a very tight three-way finish, favourite Firsthand got the bob in to win after a nice run behind the leader.  He is racing well. Pick Me Up first-up was good and made strong ground along the fence to always win the race. Wild ‘N’ Famous solid yet again without winning. Girl Sunday was every chance beaten into fifth.

Race 7 – Eremein Handicap (1800m)

Note – Supply And Demand was well ridden to record a dominant victory. He continues to race well this preparation. Montauk back at Randwick looks ready to win after hitting the line hard again. Both So Willie & Alegria were sound, but the winner was far to good for them.

Race 8 – Cancer Foundation Handicap (1100m)

Sir Bacchus (2nd) – Settled a touch worse than midfield and back on the fence, turning for home he was held up for a run then had to squeeze through a needle eye gap. Once clear surged to the line to just go down. He will be winning soon.

Note – Winner Royal Tudor was good after sitting three-deep with trail and hit the line well to just hold off the other swoopers. Slightly Sweet raced wide and on the speed and battled away very well to just miss the placings, and looks ready now. Old North was a much improved effort from last start and hit the line well.

Race 9 – One Solutions Handicap (1400m)

Sultan Of Swing (2nd) – Huge finale! Was last on the turn and a good ten lengths off the leader. Took many lengths off the winner in the final 200m to run the winner to 0.5 lengths, but everyone saw it so don’t expect a huge price next start but he motored home!

Note – Louie Sea Kay ran on well to win for Corey Brown, giving him a treble for the day. A couple of roughies than ran on soundly, Springbok Flyer & More Than Fabulous, both looking for further around the 2000m+.  Keep an eye on them going forward and don’t let them get under your guard.
