Trevor Lawson’s Caulfield Quaddie Preview

We're back at Caulfield this Saturday for the first time in two months, and Trevor has given his take on the quaddie legs

Caulfield Quaddie Preview

The rail is out 12m and while I haven’t walked the track yet, most likely you’ll want to be up on the pace and close to the rail. Prefer to walk the track after they have finished watering it, so will do that this afternoon.

Race 6 - BM78 2420m

#5 Lycurgus (Moor / O’brien)
Racing consistently in this distance range. Should be thereabouts.

#6 Etah James (Meech / Cumani)
Improving mare who looks a natural stayer. Has sound claims here.

#9 Serenade The Stars (Williams / Gelagotis)
Good foundation now for the step up to 2400m which looks a suitable trip. Gets Craig Williams on.

#10 Prince Of Pagoda (Mallyon / McEvoy)
First try at this trip was terrifically strong through the line in fast run race.

#12 Bint El Bedu (Dee / Price)
Strong through the line over shorter distance last start. Looks suited to the trip.

Race 7 - Handicap 1440m

#6 Dan Zephyr (Aitken / Carey)
Prepared to forgive last start at Pakenham. Previous runs sounds. Maps well.

#8 Ozi Choice (Thompson / Weir)
Racing in good form. Good record this trip. Drawn wide but should get across.

#9 Thelburg (Caserta / Sadler)
Third-up here at 1400m. Ran well this distance on similar pattern last year.

#10 Urban Ruler (Mcnell / Eurell)
Won well 1st-up at Geelong and then has had excuses past two runs. Would win easily if it returned to ratings from previous prep.

Race 8 - Handicap 1100m

#1 Crystal Dreamer (Thornton / Ellerton & Zahra)
Racing consistently, albeit over shorter trips. Will roll forward from barrier.

#2 Thermal Current (Lane / Weir)
Ran well 1st-up on a track that didn’t suit. Can improve again here.

#8 Oberland (Thompson / Weir)
No luck last start at Flemington. Previous runs sound at Caulfield. Given freshen up for this and has run well with runs spaced in the past.

#13 Manolo Blahniq (Williams / Noonan)
Resumed with solid performance over 1000m at Sandown. Only has to hold rating here to be a chance.

Race 9 - BM84 1100m

#3 Brugal Reward (Brown / Weir)
Suited by tempo at Ballarat when hit the line hard. Will be doing the same here.

#10 Strykinglee (Thompson / Laurie)
Racing consistently and only needs to hold rating here to be competitive.

#11 Club Tropicana (Williams / Ellerton & Zahra)
Won past two, maps well and can hold rating here.

#12 If Not Now When (Cartwright / Dwyer)
Resumes. Will get back but should be suited if the pace is on. Has claims in wide open race.

#13 Creativity (Lane / Ellerton & Zahra)
Ran well 1st-up over this distance. Should strip fitter here.
