Key Bets pro-punter Cameron O’Brien brings you his in-depth Sunshine Coast Guineas preview.
The Caloundra race track on the Sunshine Coast have their big day, and one of the main races is the 1600m Sunshine Coast Guineas.
Some good horses have won this in the past, and it was this race in 2015 that saw the beginning of Winx’s winning streak, when she charged home from last to win running away. Will we see the next Winx on Saturday? Well, to be honest, probably not, but that’s OK!
Here’s the last few winners:
To the speed map, I think there’s good pace, a few pressing on, so I think all runners should get their chance, so long as they can get a position:
My market is:
And I am happy to be on JUNIPAL, hopefully we get a little drift between now and the race. He loves wet (won his MDN by 10L on heavy…), he finished solidly 2nd up last time and I do not think that’s his top, proven the trip, proven wet, the one to beat for me.
#1 LEONARDO DA HINCHI
Settles off pace and will appreciate the pace on here, fitter for three runs back, however this ex Weir galloper has not found his Weir form for Price just yet, and that is a query. He is improving his figures with each run however this prep.
Nice closing run when he got too far out of his ground in the QLD Guineas, I think he’ll appreciate the pace on here and his one start on a wet track he won by 10L in his MDN at Donald!
Had chance on pace in the QLD Guineas and couldn’t find more, I can’t really give him more than that therefore
#4 CONQUER THE STARS
Handles wet, but just needs a lot more than his figures so far, that makes it tough
#5 BLUE COMET
Finding the line solidly in lead up wins and will like the mile, needs to find a few lengths on those wins however, big rise in grade
#6 ENTERPRISE JACK
On the up and handles wet, ready to do a new mark, just another who needs a lot on what he’s been doing though!
#7 ONE MORE CAST
Another racing well in the lower grade, but again needs too much to be able to push him up that high
Won on the heavy at the gold coast over 1200m, however has been found out at 1350m and 1400m since, has to be a big query the trip
#9 BACCARAT BABY
Went to her top two back in the QLD Guineas behind Kolding. Really game there but just couldn’t find more the last bit. Can forgive last start when wide, can drop in behind the pace here and be hard to hold out. My concern is the prep is getting long now however and the tough run LST may knock her out for the prep.
Good two back then just ordinary last time, drawn wide but maps in
Improving this prep, held 101’s and might have more now fourth up, will go back but the pace on is OK, chance to find new level
No luck last time, got too far back and was strong to the line, however she races this way so always needs luck
Honest filly but needs a bit much
Genuine filly rating well, presses forward and with the drop back in trip can take some catching
Racing well but needs too much improvement up in class
#16 SLEEPY HEART
On the up and I don’t think we’ve seen her top yet, but she’s another who needs a bit much
