Australian Cup 2021: Key runners

HUMIDOR has run well second-up in the past, but was well beaten first-up and is jumping to 2000m here. Prefer others.

HARLEM is a two-time winner of this race, but isn’t going as well and is getting long in the tooth.

FIFTY STARS won this race last year and has had a very a similar set-up this year – he’s third-up on a seven-day back-up. He ran second in the Blamey after winning that last year. He’s certainly the horse to beat here.

HOMESMAN‘s best figures are on wet tracks. He ran okay first-up in the Peter Young, but did get his own way in front. Prefer others.

WARNING is first-up here at 2000m. He’d have to run to his very best to figure here, and I’m not sure he can.

ANGEL OF TRUTH was good in the Peter Young, hitting the line nicely. He’d prefer a softer track.

BEST OF DAYS is on the quick back-up from the Blamey and jumping to 2000m. I doubt he can beat Fifty Stars.

STEEL PRINCE ran well first-up in the Peter Young, where he flat-footed before hitting the line well. I reckon he can run to near his best here.

CHAPADA hit the line okay first-up in a slowly-run race. He’s better suited here at 2000m, on a big track in a solidly-run race.

PLATOON is on the quick backup with a big jump from 1400m to 2000m. Prefer others.

SHARED AMBITION ran well first-up, then put in another solid run in the Peter Young. He should be ready to peak here and can run to his best.

DEFIBRILLATE has won his past four starts, all in handicaps. So he’s racing well, but he’d have to run to a new peak to win this.

SAN HUBERTO came through the same race as Defibrillate, where he fought all the way to the line. His best chance here is if it’s a solid tempo. He’s definitely over the odds.

NONCONFORMIST looks targeted to this race. He’s third-up and hasn’t had much luck in his past two. Gets blinkers for the first time and he can run to his best here.

MIAMI BOUND is a wet tracker. Not here.

2000m in a Group 1will more than see MISS SISKA  out.

PARADEE is racing well, with three straight wins, but is another that would have to run to a new peak to win this.

Verdict: I’ve got Fifty Stars on top and the only horse in single figures. He’s $4.20 with TopSport.
Shared Ambition is the best of the rest.
