So the time has come for me to step down from my role providing prices and tips through Champion Bets.
Firstly, I’d like to thank you all for being so loyal throughout my nearly 3 years in this role. You have all made this a much more enjoyable experience through the banter and fun on the live page especially. I’d also really like to thank Dave and the team at Champion Bets. I could not have asked for a more honest and reputable business to associate myself with over the last few years.
Some of you are probably asking why? As some of you who are close to me know, tipping publicly was something I had never really intended to do. However, circumstances changed greatly at home about 3.5 years ago when my beautiful twin girls Sophie and Holly were diagnosed with Autism. Our expenses went up considerably and I was looking for extra income to bring in. I took on this role to compliment my betting along with consulting at a corporate bookie, coaching a jockey, writing articles and whatever else came along in this time. I’ve worked myself to the point of exhaustion both physically and mentally. My wife, Sally, has worked even harder in her role rising up the corporate ladder. Her work ethic, both at home and at the office, are a constant source of inspiration to me.
Next year, after a lot of hard work by them and their wonderful therapists, our girls are going to mainstream school. There is still a long way to go, but we are so happy to be on such a positive trajectory with it all, and I feel now is the time for me to step aside. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last few years at CB. After a terrible start, we weathered the storm and it was mostly good times after that. We experienced all that there is to experience as a punter over the course of 3 years, the lows, the flat spots and the highs. Now, it’s just time for me to go back to betting and catching up on sleep!
It’s not all bad news however. As all you guys, and Dave and the CB team, have been so good to me, I wanted to find a replacement that would do an even better job than I have done. There was only one person who I had in mind. He’s the only person I would (and will) subscribe to on NSW racing. He’s a fantastic judge, very well respected, and a much nicer bloke than me 🙂
Bryan Haskins is one of the most highly regarded judges in NSW racing. Not only is he the most successful jockey manager in the country, but he is also one of the shrewdest punters I’ve come across in my time in racing. I have no doubt he will be a huge success at this. Like any punter, it won’t always be rosy, but he will be winning for you in the long run.
Thanks again, to all of you. I really do appreciate the way most of you stuck so solid the whole way.
Best of luck in the future,
Dave Duffield here, with a thank-you to the Snowman and an update on our membership offering:
Firstly I want to say a big thanks to Nathan Snow for almost 3 years of service in helping Champion Bets & our members.
As he mentioned above, Snowy originally joined us with a clear goal in mind in that he wanted to earn another income to be able to give his autistic daughters the best possible care. The fact that his girls are going as well as you could possibly hope for right now is just fantastic. Snowy also spoke about the very strong bounce-back from a really rough start and that is something else he should be proud of.
So it’s been a good run, but it ends this Saturday and I fully understand why he wants to put the tipping cue in the rack.
Bryan Haskins’ new service kicks off on Saturday. Not only does Bryan manage the world’s best jockey in Hugh Bowman, but he’s a seriously good punter so the baton has been passed in style.
Better known as ‘Cheers’, he will have best bets, rated prices and runner comments for the races he is personally betting into. A normal Saturday will be around 4 metro and 4 provincial races, typically with multiple runners per race. He may bet any day of the week, but Wednesday and Saturday are of course the busiest.
More info on the new Bryan’s Bets membership.
You can learn more about him in this Q&A.
So whilst it is a shame that Snowy can’t continue, we are very confident that we’re in exceptional hands with Bryan Haskins.
If you have any questions please get in contact.
Good luck and Happy Christmas.
