Epsom Handicap preview – Saturday October 1st

Epsom Handicap preview by guest reviewer Todd Burmester The Epsom Handicap takes centre stage this weekend at Randwick, and it is set to be a very competitive race. These big Randwick miles are generally always competitive and therefore are good betting races. Selecting the winner one out can certainly be a challenge, but backing a few in the race can still give you value. Looking through the past winners of the race, everyone will of course recall the great deeds of Super Impose. There are no Super Impose’s in this race, but its a quality line up none the less. Being a handicap, sometimes you can have horses that look like they are getting in “light” at the weights, but my advice is stick to a proven performer. Filante, Shogun Lodge, Desert War, and Theseo are examples of the type of horse I am talking about that have all won the Epsom fairly recently. In the 2011 field, are there any that fit that bill? The horse with both a proven record, and that is still on the way up, in my opinion is Sincero. He’ll be the favourite for the race, but still should be around 4/1. He won the George Main last start after sitting wide, and that augers well for this. Racing To Win pulled off the double in 2006. Looking at dangers, I am a huge fan of Secret Admirer and prepared to forgive her last start failure. Foreteller is somewhat untapped, and is in the Waller stable and Raspberries could be one at bolters odds to run a race. If playing the multiples Sacred Choice has to go in.   Good Luck
