$4.80 She’s All Class
$9 Alpine Edge

Magic Millions 2YO Classic: The Professor’s preview

Track

Currently it’s a Soft 5 after solid recent rainfall. There doesn’t look to be a lot of rain pre-race, but perhaps enough shower activity to keep the sting out of the track. The rail is out 1 metre from the 1000m to the 400m, and true the remainder. Generally when the track has some give and the rail is close to true, I expect the fence to be off and the best going in the straight to be well off the fence.

Pace

Generally these races are fast-run affairs. There are plenty that want to take up forward positions here, though not many of them actually have a lot of gate speed… so this may not be the fastest affair. On balance think we can expect a solid but not breakneck speed out front.

1 Alpine Edge

Won two from two and has shown he can be ridden forward or back. Has been strongly advantaged by tempo in both wins. Should be fit with the run over 1200m under its belt. Will need to improve to be winning this.

2 Finance Tycoon

On the quick back up. Likes to go forward but is drawn the carpark here so the map looks tricky. Last start performance was good but will need luck, a very good ride, or both to get a nice enough run in transit to repeat that type of rating. .

3 Readily Availabull

Won his only start at Ballarat over 1000m which was impressive to the eye, but ratings out of that race were very poor both for early and late speed. Will need to run many lengths faster to win here, and not sure first-up over 1200m is a set up that I want to be with.

4 Shaquero

Only beaten very narrowly by Finance Tycoon last start over 1200m at Eagle Farm. Draws barrier 1 here and should be right up on the pace, but likely to be in the worst going late.

5 Ghostwriter

Well beaten last start by Alpine Edge when caught wide for a solid portion of the race. Did beat home Shaquero on that occasion though, and his prior two runs were both not far off the level required to win here. Does have a tricky draw but at the odds I think he’s one of the outsiders that warrants some consideration.

6 Baby Wong

Not beaten far last start by Alpine Edge with a gap to the rest of the field. Got a perfect run in transit on that occasion, so had every possible chance. Gets Nash on board which helps a lot and is drawn to get another nice run. Looks like he might get every possible chance again but just not sure he’s up to the task of winning it.

7 Mishani Scandal

Well beaten by Finance Tycoon. Harder race, drawn the carpark and not sure he can run the 1200m. Hard pass.

8 Rambeau

Would need to improve out of sight to win. Can’t see it happening.

9 Fake Love

Scratched

10 Mura Mura

Unseen in Queensland so far. Not broken through for a win in four starts and over 1100m at Kensington last start she wasn’t exactly strong late. Doesn’t instill confidence over 1200m.

11 She’s All Class

Another one that hasn’t raced in Queensland yet. Won the Wyong Magic Millions by five lengths and looked like she had plenty up the sleeve. Rating out of that race puts her right around the mark required to win here. Has had 29 days between runs and is drawn out very wide so will need some luck, but looks a major player.

12 Swift Witness

Beaten five lengths by She’s All Class at Wyong, then came up to Queensland and won last weekend by three lengths with a bit in hand, returning a very strong rating. Drawn slightly awkwardly in 11 but have mapped to take up a nice spot. Gets Avdulla on board and on the quick back-up. In this up to her eyeballs.

13 You’ll Be Mist

Impressive winner at the Sunshine Coast over 1000m last start when improved on her previous performance by an enormous amount. This is obviously harder, steps up to 1200m for the first time and gets a tricky draw. Outside chance.

14 Miss Hipstar

Beaten four lengths by Swift Witness last Saturday. Hard to see her turning that around given she has to jump from barrier 19 this time.

15 Queen Of Wizardry

Won impressively on debut over 1200m at Eagle Farm, coming from near last to score. May have been a bit deceptive though as late sectionals out of the race were pretty ordinary. Don’t think she’s a real contender.

16 Princess Bojack

Currently $101 and think that is reasonably big unders.

17E Ranch Hand

Went around as a $1.30 favourite last start at Eagle Farm over 1200m and was really disappointing, getting rolled by Queen Of Wizardry in a race with very moderate figures. If he runs up to the debut performance at Warwick Farm he’s right in it, but it’s hard to have much confidence after last start.

18E Ruby Kisses

Not really sure what to make of this horse. Was good on debut, uncompetitive in the Wyong Magic Millions, and then was okay last start… though did have every possible. Gets the blinkers on and a nice draw so I will likely keep safe.

19E Mishani Enchanted

Genuine $201 chance.

20E Win Burn

Eye-catching run from last to only be beaten 0.8 lengths into second by Queen Of Wizardry last start. But did save every inch of ground on the fence and the sectionals weren’t as impressive as the visuals were.

21E Glorious Ruby

Very unlikely to get a run, but did close off nicely in a high rating race against Swift Witness last start. On the quick back up and with a nice draw, looks like could be a potential small-big play at big odds.

Summary

To be honest this is not a race I’m overly enthused about, and I think the market is pretty spot on. She’s All Class and Swift Witness look to be the two with the best credentials leading into this. The run of Swift Witness last start and the nice set-up coming into this on the quick back-up puts her on top for me. If Ranch Hand gets a run and can reproduce what he showed on debut he also has the potential to win. Outside of that Glorious Ruby is one at big odds that would interest me, but she needs a lot of luck just to get a run.
