NSW pro-punter Mark Rhoden brings you his Canterbury Quaddie tips for Friday night racing.
Race 5: Evening Star (1550m)
Selections: 3, 4
Good effort from Great Job (3) first-up and looks one of only two on-pacers in the race here. Will get every chance. Witches (4) is unproven at the trip but went well with a positive ride in a stronger race last start. Not a great jockey change but is the only other speed in the race and has to be included.
Race 6: TAB Rewards Handicap (1550m)
Selections: 4, 5, 6
Excellent first up win from Bring The Magic (4), and should be even better suited at 1550m now. Will just need some luck from the inside. Tough effort from Everlasting Love (5) after a wide trip last time, has a chance if she can repeat that. Sure Knee (6) had a tough run in a stronger race last time and may be looking for this trip now (her dam was a middle-distance type).
Race 7: ATC Handicap (1900m)
Selections: 1, 2, 3, 9
Rapido Chaparro (1) is an improver who will give them something to catch again. The trip looks suitable and although he has 62kg, it’s a high weight scale in this race. Zip A Dee Doo Dah (2) is struggling to break through in town but continues to race well and has a chance again. Nahuel (3) was an impressive winner last time and is drawn to trail the topweight, must include. Via Veneto’s (9) condition gave out off a 32 day break last time, should be fitter and McDonald sticks with her.
Race 8: The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1250m)
Selections: 1, 9, 10, 11
The Pharaoh (1) looked like he’s had enough on the line last time but will lead on the rail again, so hard to leave out. Ori On Fire (9) was suited by the tempo last time, but won well and should get a good run again. Good chance. Verlan (10) may get back but did run a very good last section last time, is one of the chances. Quadriga (11) resumes as a gelding, has the most scope in the race but may get three or four back the fence here. But can’t leave out.
