Moonee Valley Quaddie Preview
Trevor Lawson returns with his Moonee Valley Quaddie tips. He’s got four chances in each of the first three legs before coming home with seven runners in the last.
Race 6 – Mortimer Petroleum Handicap (2500m)
Selections: 1, 2, 4, 8
Thunder Cloud (1) got too far back last start behind a tear-away leader at its first try this distance range. Can bounce back here. Big Hammer (2) is racing consistently at this distance and can hold rating. Streetcar To Stars (4) ran well at its first run for almost four years last start. Is a good chance here if it holds the rating. Pioneertown (8) put in a terrific run when leading all the way last start over a similar distance, and maps to get a similar run here.
Race 7 – Ladbrokes Cash In Handicap (1600m)
Selections: 5, 11, 12, 13
Malaise (5) ran well two starts back, then too far back last start. Drawn wide again but will be getting home. Another Coldie (11) is racing well and holding its rating. Maps well here. Call Me Handsome (12) has had not much luck all three runs this prep. Rises in distance here and maps to get a good run in the race. Last Week (13) is a stayer resuming here. Well down in class with a claim, and has solid claims if fancied.
Race 8 – Ladbrokes Cash Out Handicap (2040m)
Selections: 1, 2, 3, 4
Pacodali (1) was late scratching twos weeks ago, so has now had five weeks between runs. Did win last year in same circumstances, and the stable-elect jockey goes on here. Will be thereabouts. Morton’s Fork (2) ran honestly last start at its first run this distance. Can hold rating here and gets Williams on. Trap For Fools (3) has been building its rating each run this prep. Now fourth run in and second run at this distance range, should be ready to peak. Hans Holbein (4) has had a long time off. Both Australian wins were over further but has run okay first-up before. Meets Pacodali significantly better than last time.
Race 9 – Sheamus Mills Bloodstock Handicap (1200m)
Selections: 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13
Labuan Star (1) had solid win at Geelong and racing well. Can hold rating here. Princeton Spirit (3) is racing consistently, returns a similar rating each run and can do the same here. Highland Beat (5) is an inconsistent galloper who is well down in class here. Significant jockey change on past few runs. Sharpness (6) had a terrific win last start at Caulfield from inside barrier. Slight concern drawing wide here, but has solid claims. Nordic Empire (7) is a consistent type who looks a leader. Will be hard to hold out if the inside is still holding up. Lord Barrington (8) is an on-pacer drawn wide. Well weighted here with a claim. Will be thereabouts. Toosbuy (13) has had not much luck over past couple. Will settle back off speed but will get home hard if the conditions suit.
