Nathan Snow’s Preview of The BMW

Race reviews rosehill

Back to Rosehill for the third week in a row and after racing on the bottomless track last week, along with more rain throughout the week, means we will be on a well worn heavy track.

The feature race is the BMW and the map is pretty simple. Lasqueti Spirit will get out and bowl along to make it a true staying test, with Jameka trailing up next, with the other seven runners all preferring to ease

This is a very interesting race this year.  It’s a clash of the Sydney and Melbourne form, with most runners adept on the wet, plus the spectacle of Lasqueti Spirit trying to get out to a big lead and keep going.  I can make a legitimate case for seven of the nine runners.

Our Ivanhowe was a super win last week. Resumed over 2000m and relished the heavy track recording good sectionals. Distance should suit, but second-up at 2400m within 7 days has to be some concern.

Exospheric hit the line well in the Australian Cup and also looks suited up to 2400m. Did have things to suit last start and is untried in the wet.

Who Shot Thebarman has come back particularly well this prep. Ran on well behind Winx first-up then no luck when working into it well behind Tavago. Gets conditions to suit and will be there somewhere.

Humidor is talented and been showing a very good turn of foot, but still doing things wrong in its races. Pace suited last time but did win in the worst part of the track. Untried at 2400m but does have good wet form in New Zealand

Tavago has returned in good form this prep. Given a great ride last time but was strong through the line, up in distance suits and likes it wet.

Jameka was an enormous run in the Australian Cup. Worked early then stuck on well on a solid pace. Up to 2400m suits but is untried on a track as wet as this

Lasqueti Spirit has been racing well over unsuitable distances this prep. Unusual horse that has zero turn of foot, but a remarkable ability to maintain its top speed for a long way so will relish the step up to 2400. Has some good stayers that will be chasing here, but she likes it wet and will keep grinding away

My early market has the chances all pretty bunched, so the early value looks to lie with Who Shot Thebarman and Lasqueti Spirit. Think both will start $21+ tomorrow and will both get me for something small in an open race.
