Caulfield quaddie
  • Trevor Lawson delivers his full Caulfield quaddie, plus runner notes
  • First leg: Race 6, 3:30pm local time

Race 6 – MRC Everest Series Heath 1100 Stakes (1100m)

Selections: 1, 3, 4

BALL OF MUSCLE (1) leads and goes okay. VEGA MAGIC (4) is easily the best horse here, but has had one run in 322 days, and a total of two runs in the last year – both were on wet tracks which he doesn’t handle. I’ve marked him two lengths under what he did first-up last year and I’ve still got him marked evens. He has a huge class edge and doesn’t need to be anywhere near fit to win this. If he really struggles then BALL OF MUSCLE (1) comes into it and if he’s not fit, GYTRASH (3) has a chance.

MALAGUERRA (5) needs the run and the rest of the field isn’t good enough.

Race 7 – Cockram Stakes (1200M)

Selections: 11, 13

PIPPIE (13) crosses and leads easily, and SYLVIA’S MOTHER (11) sits handy. Their figures are as good as the rest of the field and they’ll be a long way ahead. The rest won’t get in the race.

Race 8 – Memsie Stakes (1400m)

Selections: 1, 5, 6, 11

HARTNELL (1) is getting on a bit but races well over the 1400m and races well here. SCALES OF JUSTICE (5) is third-up here and this is a million-dollar race that looks a target. He ran well here two starts back and can probably bounce off that here. Was beaten last start in Adelaide but there wasn’t much in it. CLIFF’S EDGE (6) was terrific last start behind Mystic Journey. If the others don’t happen to work to get forward, he’ll get a very good run. ALIZEE (11) is second-up here after a win and they were very kind to it, basically easing it right down and just winning.

Race 9 – Ladbrokes Odds Boost Handicap (1400m)

Selections: 14, 18, 19 (1, 2, 8, 14, 16)

This will be a case of waiting for scratchings. I’ve got AGE OF CHIVALRY (18) clear favourite from ROX THE CASTLE (19), but they’re both currently emergencies. If they get a run, they settle first and second and they’ve got the class. I’ve then got a small gap to ANTAH (14).

So if 18 and 19 get a run, the numbers to have are 14, 18, 19.

If they don’t get a run, it’s wide open and looks like a tougher race. In that case, put in 1, 2, 8, 14 and 16.
