  • First leg: Race 6, 3:30pm local time

Race 6 – Strathmore Community Bendigo Bank Stakes (1200m)

Selections: 6, 9, 10, 11

DEPRIVE (6) has won past five and runs well fresh. Has run well here in past and gets Oliver on. RUNSON (9) is first-up here. Inconsistent galloper but does have best overall figures. Doesn’t have to be anywhere near peak to be competitive. THE INEVITABLE (10) is a Tassie galloper with winning ways. Good effort first-up over 1000m, given time to get over run, trip suits and gets Williams on. TAVISAN (11) led and dictated last start. Different scenario here but doesn’t have to lead to win.

Race 7 – McEwen Stakes (1000m)

Selections: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8

FAATINAH (1) resumes here off Dubai prep. Did similar thing last year when winning first-up over this trip. Has trialled nicely. BONS AWAY (3) was unlucky first-up over this trip when held up. Wider draw suits, good speed in the race and will be getting home hard. EDUARDO (4) is a lightly raced galloper with terrific figures. Huge run resuming in Oakleigh Plate in the autumn. Hard to beat here. INN KEEPER (5) runs well fresh and loves wet ground, so any rain will be an advantage. Gets Williams. BOOKER (6) won the Oakleigh Plate in Autumn. Doesn’t have to rate to that figure to be competitive here. MISS LEONIDAS (8) has a terrific record when able to lead. Not sure if leads here, but will be hard to hold out if so. Won by a space at only run this track and distance.

Race 8 – Feehan Stakes (1600m)

Selections: 3, 5, 9, 14

HOMESMAN (3) resumes here off a long spell. Doesn’t have to be even near right to be competitive. BEST OF DAYS (5) ran okay first-up in a slowly run race. Second-up here. Can go forward from barrier. Likely improver. SIKANDARABAD (9) put in a good run first-up. Natural improvement here should see him fitter. Drawn to get decent run. THE CHOSEN ONE (14) is a NZ galloper, won the Frank Packer Plate impressively in autumn. Hard to gauge fitness but will be getting home strong.

Race 9 – Drummond Gold Handicap (1600m)

Selections: 2, 3, 4, 7, 10

VINLAND (2) put in a good run last start when conditions suited. Given a month off since. Will get back but has a chance at odds. NEW UNIVERSE (3) produced a peak figure here three runs back. Not much luck past couple. Gets right run here. DR DRILL (4) has been given a month off since failure on a wet track. Previous runs good. Williams booked, which suggests still going well. Should run well. CURRAGH (7) given a short break but has run well off that in past. Chance enhanced if wet track. ROYAL ACE (10) is in career best form. Won well last start on wet track. Drawn well and hard to beat if gets conditions to suit.
