  • Cameron has found a value tip in the small field

Only a small field for the feature race on the program this week, the Listed Kensington Stakes. The last four year’s winners of this race have been…

Year Horse Weight Rating Margin
2019 Belwazi 54 105 0.3
2018 Rock N Gold 54 104 0.2
2017 Tivaci 57.5 111 0.2
2016 Headwater 54 108 0.2

Interestingly, all of the last four years were a close finish, with very small margins each time.

Kensington Stakes: Speed

There’s just a moderate pace in this years edition for mine. That’s often the case in small fields. They should get their chance from any of those six spots, but it’s a slight advantage on pace.

Kensington Stakes: Rated Market

No Horse Rating Rated Price
3 Time To Reign 108 $2.40
5 Sartorial Splendour 106 $4.90
2 Bold Star 106.5 $6.30
4 My Pendant 104 $11.80
1 All Too Royal 107 $12.80
6 Causeway Girl 103 $18.30

I’m very keen on the three-year-old TIME TO REIGN (3) resuming. I don’t think we’ve seen this horse’s top yet, and he trialled up winning by 9.5 lengths recently in Sydney. He was very promising as a two-year-old, and I think that now he looks right again (after an injury problem) he’ll come back at least at his top… maybe a new top, and this makes him the one to beat. I’m happy to be on!

Kensington Stakes: Runner Comments

ALL TOO ROYAL (1) is second up and went to his best first-up over 1200 metres at Caulfield. He’s back to 1000 metres which isn’t a big query as he’s at won this trip in the past. Will be off the pace a little though and is badly off at the weights for me.

BOLD STAR (2) is in good form this prep, loves it here and sits just off the pace a little. Will run on hard.

TIME TO REIGN (3) is an on-the-up three-year-old and I don’t think we’ve seen his top yet. He trialled up well for this, thrashing an okay type. Could see a new peak resuming here.

First up off 105 days, I don’t think we’ve seen MY PENDANT’s (4) top yet , however I think that will be over a lot further than 1000 metres.

SARTORIAL SPLENDOR (5) resumes off 77 days. Got to a solid 108 top mark last prep over 1200 metres at the Valley before failing down this straight, and was spelled. Big chance if he can get the 108 rating first up. Maps well and has Kah.

CAUSEWAY GIRL (6) maps well and is going fairly, but hasn’t found her top this prep at this stage.
