The Queen of the Turf Stakes is a Group 1 weight-for-age race for fillies and mares held at Randwick Racecourse during The Championships, Sydney’s major autumn racing event. The Queen of the Turf is held on the second day of The Championships, and is marketed as the fillies and mares championship. It’s raced over 1600 metres with prizemoney of $1 million. The race was known as the Coolmore Legacy from 2016 – 2020 for sponsorship reasons.
Prior to the introduction of The Championships, the Queen of the Turf was raced at Rosehill Racecourse over 1500 metres.

COLETTE [$3.90] is the race favourite and a classy mare but under the odds for me. She has worked into this prep well, rating 109-109-110, and has a best of 112, but the way the market has priced her right now puts her more at around a 115 mark. I don’t think she can do that but she can certainly win with her 112. The pace on helps, she gets the drop on it.
YONCE [$6] is a bit of a boom horse, having strung six together now from six starts, her most recent being three weeks ago at Flemington when she rated 106. She rated 111 the start before on the Soft 5 at Flemington over the mile, then back to 106 last start, but still won. That creates a query for me, because now it looks like the 111 is her top (at least for now, maybe more next prep) and with her coming back to 106 she’s not certain to do the 111. The hype is priced in currently too, so I am happy to bet around her here.
ICEBATH [$7] got very close to her top last with a nice closing run in the Doncaster. That figure makes her a solid chance here. The draw is an issue – McEvoy will need to be clever – but she’s in form. I think the market is too short though right now.

FANGIRL [$8.50] is the top rater for me and hopefully backable. She is back well this prep, rating well, and I can’t say we’ve seen her top yet. The draw is an issue and Avdulla will need to be good, but this filly has been up to the 1850m last start, so she’ll certainly be strong at the end of 1600m. The pace on can help her to drop in and if she gets a trail and a clear crack at them down the Randwick straight, she’ll be very hard to hold out.
LIGHTHOUSE [$12] got to her top in winning the Coolmore two back. She didn’t repeat that in the Doncaster but she’s in form and racing well, and Kah going on is a plus. She’s drawn a little wide here, but I map her getting in and she gets her chance. My query is this prep is getting quite long… she’s essentially been up since her Australian debut in early November.
PROMISE OF SUCCESS [$16] had a good win at Newcastle in the Emancipation last start. She went 110 and that’s top, or close to top, for her. She’s racing well and maps well with the drop on the good pace. Solid chance.
ANNAVISTO [$19] returned in good form this prep, winning at Flemington, then getting close to that mark second-up in the Emancipation. There could be pressure up on pace – that’s a query – but she’s in form and gets her chance otherwise.
NIMALEE [$21] has been good in both runs back and is very close to her top now. She maps ideally from the good draw, too. The concern is that her top mark probably falls just short of winning this, so she may need to find a little more. But she has the right type of race to do that.
The weather is going against the hopes of Shout The Bar in Saturday’s group one Queen of the Turf @ChampionshipsRR
The mare does like a firm surface as we saw in the Sunline @TheValley last run.
Adrian Bott also saying In The Congo has galloped up nicely since the Galaxy.

SHOUT THE BAR [$31] had a big spike rating to win at the Valley last start, rating 113. If she could hold that she would be a big chance here, however she is yet to place in 6 runs at this track and she was awful here the start before on the Heavy 10. So those are big queries, and Moonee Valley form at other tracks is always questionable.
VANGELIC [$34] is not the worst roughie in the race. She has a slight issue on the map but got to her top last start in the Emancipation and if she repeats that she’s some chance here at a price.
