Randwick Quaddie tips

NSW Winners pro punter Mark Rhoden brings you his Randwick Quaddie tips ahead of a massive day of Group 1 racing in Sydney.

Race 7: Australian Derby (2400m)

Selections: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8

The 2400m is a query for Madison County (2), but it certainly has as much ability as anything else here and is worth including at odds. In A Twinkling (3) put in a big run in the NZ Derby then didn’t cope with the ground last start. A chance at odds if the track is drier. Very pleasing run from Chapada (5) last start, and looks primed to peak at 2400m here. Surely Sacred (6) has been forced to make long wide runs at his last two starts. Started favourite in the NZ Derby and can improve. Global Exchange (8) is unbeaten this preparation and attacks the line very well. Randwick should suit.

Race 8: TJ Smith Stakes (1200m)

Selections: 2, 3, 4, 7, 9

Trapeze Artist (2) is a top class sprinter who peaked in this race last year. Great chance if not too wet. Santa Ana Lane (3) has a great Group 1 record. Very good in the Newmarket and has a chance again. Pierata (4) hit the line very hard in the Galaxy. Would prefer him drawn out a little but has a chance. Osborne Bulls (7) gets back but hits the line very hard. Definite chance. Shoals (9) wasn’t let go in her last trial and could be set to peak here.

Race 9: Doncaster Mile (1600m)

Selections: 1, 15, 17, 20

Hartnell (1) is a great old horse who didn’t have much luck in the All Star Mile. Won the Epsom last spring and is always a chance in these races. Fifty Stars (15) is in great form and well weighted but will need some luck from the gate. So Si Bon (17) has a terrible winning strike rate, but is thrown in with 50kg on his best and drawn for a good run. Worth including at huge odds. Brutal (20) is drawn awkwardly, but if he can repeat his last start effort behind Winx he’s the one they have to beat.

Race 10: PJ Bell Stakes (1200m)

Selections: 2, 6, 9, 10, 13

Fiesta (2) is the class filly of the race and will be better suited back to this class and distance. Prophet’s Thumb (6) was totally unsuited last start and will get back but should improve here. Mizzy (9) is a very good filly beautifully placed with 54kg here, great chance. Madam Rouge (10) has been freshened and wasn’t let go in her most recent trial, nicely in at the weights. So Taken (13) had a quiet trial since her last start, is competitive in this on her best and is a nice price.
