MOUNGA had the run of the race in the Randwick Guineas He really wound up late and he should eat up the 2000m here. He won on debut on heavy, though that wasn’t a very high rating. That being said he did win, so I can’t pot him on heavy necessarily. The one to beat.

GRANDSLAM rated through the roof winning at The Valley last start, but that day the track got very leader-biased and he benefited. That was six lengths higher than anything he’d ever done. If he holds that, he wins, but there’s big question mark on him doing so, especially given his one run on a soft track in last year’s Cox Plate was very poor. That might have been end-of-prep run though

LIONS ROAR came from last in a solidly run Randwick Guineas to win, where he was really suited by the pace. However, he can only play the cards he’s dealt and he found the line well. He’s already a winner on heavy so the ground should present no problem and he’s shown that he’s adept over 2000m. A lot to like.

MILFORD is a Kiwi visitor who handles the trip, handles the soft, is fit, is in form and on the up. In this race, for sure.

KHOEKHOE is the value in the race for me. He has the best wet track credentials in the race, including a 106 at the end of last prep running second in the Moonee Valley Vase. He came back going 105 at Caulfield and definitely has more to come. The 2000 metres suits and he’s well overs for me.

MONTEFILIA showed in the Spring that she’s adept on wet and dry and 2000m is right up her alley here. First-up in the Surround she was a bit one-paced, but that was at 1400 metres and she was warming up late. With the extra 600 metres and the soft track she should improve markedly here.

SKY LAB was very good in his first two runs this prep then had no luck last time. He does look to be looking for the trip.

WHEELHOUSE fought it out gamely in the Randwick Guineas when wide throughout. He was entitled to drop out but he didn’t. He’ll be fitter for that run, however it is his first look at 2000 matres and that’s a slight concern for me. He showed in his maiden win that he handles the wet though.
