Runners to watch: Randwick, 14th January

Shane Adair's notes and blackbookers from Saturday's meeting.

Race 1 – TAB Rewards Plate (1100m)

Menari (1st) – Missed the kick slightly and took a position behind the leader.  When asked for the next gear in the straight it sprinted quickly to put pay to the field very easily. The trail form was very good prior to the race and this colt looks above average. Keep following.

Race 2 – #theraces Handicap (1200m)

Thelittleracketeer (5th) – Up in grade from previous efforts and settled last, never looked a winning chance but was noted making very good ground off the winner late, and last 600m splits were excellent. Back into a lower grade and in a race with good pace I can see her being around the mark at her next start, as both the 1st & 2nd have good ability.

Race 3 – ALM Handicap (1200m)

Nothing of note in this race.

Race 4 – TAB Highway Handicap (1400m)

Cogliere (1st) – A drifter in betting, he was trapped three wide on the speed, kept kicking up the straight to just hold out its rivals, in a brave and strong victory. Is limited, however in similar class can very competitive again this preparation.

Race 5 – Maroubra Mile (1600m)

Nothing of note in this race.

Race 6 – TAB Handicap (2400m)

Notes: Frantic pace up front in this event, and although the winner won easy on paper it was set up for it to win. Also a big forgive to Thewayweare and outsider Zatopaz who was given no hope in the run.

Race 7 – Schweppes Handicap (1400m)

We’re Sure (5th) – Marked drifter in betting, last on the turn and given little chance of winning, it hit the line very strongly. He has now had two runs back from a spell and looks ready to peak now. From an astute stable, and look for it to be running a bold race in similar class very soon.

Race 8 – Handicap (1100m)

Badajoz (1st) – First up from a spell and sat just behind the leaders, and very brave in claiming victory. There were good margins back to third so suspect this race will hold up in form. Looks set to claim another victory this preparation.

Race 9 – Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1600m)

Nothing of note in this race.
