Runners to watch: Randwick, 21st January

Shane Adair's highlights and blockbookers from Saturday's meeting.

Race 1 – Australian Fire Hose Plate (1000m)

Notes: Hot favourite Eden Rock was every possible chance in this event. Sitting just behind the leader with a nice trail, this colt only was fair into the run to the line. Will improve with experience but need a lot longer price to butter up on him next start.

Race 2 – Wilkes Handicap (1000m)

Nothing of note in this event.

Race 3 – DX Solutions Handicap (1600m)

Anisha (2nd) – Given no chance with the tempo of this race but hit the line very strongly, this race does not rate highly as an event going forward and they are a limited bunch, however this is the only runner I could follow out of it. Don’t let it go around at big odds next start without you on it!

Race 4 – TAB Highway Handicap (1400m)

Super Star Bob (1st) – Might not be a superstar but goes pretty good. Makes it two from two in its career and very well backed to win today’s event. From an astute stable and can be followed throughout this preparation.

Race 5 – Optus Systems Pty Ltd Handicap (2000m)

Nothing of note in this race.

Race 6 – Rebecca Louise Handicap (1600m)

Liapari (4th) – Tucked away back on the fence and looked to be right in the finish but was held up for a run at the 100m. Not saying it would have wonm but would have been a lot closer. I do tread carefully on taking short odds on these runners at the next start, as a lot of people do see this and they tend to be over backed

Race 7 – Carrington Stakes (1400m)

Shiraz (2nd) – Much better today, given a hard task to win but let down strongly to finish just behind the winner. Looks like Kim Waugh might have him right now and at full fitness I expect it to be around the mark again at its next start.
Race 8 – Huawei Handicap (1400m)

Imanui (3rd) – Settled well back in the field and was always going to be set a task with the pace of the race, however he hit the line strongly and probably wins with another couple of bounds. He has ability and is now at peak fitness. I’m expecting it him to be very close next start.

Race 9 – Liberty International Underwriters Handicap (1600m)

Notes: Happy to take on Deploy at its next start, had a dream run and splits opened at the right time. Thinking it could well be under the odds at its next start
