Runners to watch: Randwick, December 17

Shane Adair's blackbookers from Randwick

Race 1 – TAB Highway Handicap (1200m)

Notes – Winner Free Standing gifted the softest run possible in winning the race. The leaders ran to the middle of the track presenting a golden run for Free Standing. Although winning quite comfortably I believe this could present a horse under the odds at its next start as it will not be getting a run like that again.

Race 2 – Ainsworth Game  (1600m)

Moher (1st) – Another excellent run from this horse this preparation, worked to hold the lead and set a steady tempo in front. Kept fighting strongly down the straight to hold them all off. Continues to race well and can be followed strongly in the future in races where it should map to be leading.

Race 3 – Inglis Nursery (1000m)

She Will Reign (1st) – Wow! Made it two very impressive wins this preparation.  Pinged the gates to hold the lead and kicked very strongly to cruise to a very easy victory. Only reservation is what did she beat? On face value not a lot, but couldn’t have been more impressive doing it.

Race 4 – Segenhoe Cup (1200m)

Imposing Lass (6th) –  Given a quiet run back in the field, taken to the worst part of the track in the straight and made steady ground along the fence. Looks to come back in good order and should be winning this preparation.

Race 5 – Fugen Christmas Cup (2400m)

Nothing to note from this race.

Race 6 – Inglis Sprint (1100m)

Manuel (3rd) – Caught wide in the run and severely impeded in the straight, but still hit the line well. Hasn’t had a lot of luck in his starts but does have above average ability. There is a good race in this bloke. Keep following.

Race 7 – Inglis Villiers Stakes (1600m)

Sarrasin (3rd) – First run in Australia for the Freedman camp and hit the line very strongly. His European form is excellent and should be improved with the step up in distance. Looks to have a future in Australia based on this first up run, should only be improved by this.

Fabrizio (14th) – Total forget run, well supported and has above average ability. The way it dropped out in the straight there had to have been something wrong. Keen to see stewards report.

Race 8 – Green Options Racing Razor Sharp (1200m)

Notes – Hard to make a case for the beaten brigade here. Most had their chance to run down the roughie but were unable to. Tread carefully when following runners out of this race at their next start.

Race 9 – JLT & QBE Supporting Surf Lifesaving Handicap (1200m)

Notes – Tricky race to end the day with, both first and second are average performers however they cleared out from third. Reluctant to make them horses to follow however they both did run well from a future view point. Just don’t rush into silly odds about them!
