Runners to watch: Randwick, February 4th

Shane Adair's blackbookers from Saturday

Race 1 – ALM Handicap (2000m)

Montauk (1st) – Settled last in the small field and looked in real trouble of not getting a run at the 200m. Pushed through a tight gap and sprinted quickly. Being ridden quiet and given one run has really suited him. Been up for a while now but continues to race well.

Race 2 – Hinchinbrook Plate (1100m)

Notes – Looking at this race for a Slipper prospect I can’t see the winner in this lot. The winner will be improved from the run and can be followed. The rest I don’t think are up to taking out the 2017 edition of the race.

Race 3 – Schweppes Gardenia Handicap (1600m)

Allergic (5th) – First up and settled last in the run. Made steady ground up the straight and hit the line as good as anything.  Is an above average galloper and looks to have come back in good order.

Race 4 – The Chi-X Sprint (1400m)

Denmagic (2nd) – First up and at an unsuitable distance. Settled well back and chased home the smart Del Cielo. This mare is very consistent and above average and looks to have come back in good order again.

Race 5 – TAB Highway Handicap (1200m)

Nothing of note in this race.

Race 6 – Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m)

Man From Uncle (1st) – Well tried in the betting ($21 into $13) and sat wide and midfield. Was entitled to knock up down the straight but let down to just nail the leader right on the line. Continued its very solid form in its previous preparation with an excellent first up run.

Race 7 – Breeders Classic (1200m)

Circular (5th) – First up over a unsuitable trip. Settled last on the turn and really hit the line hard in the last 100m. Unwanted in betting, punters are waiting for her to get out to the mile, where she will be hard to beat in anything she runs in.

Race 8 – The Star Club Handicap (1600m)

Imanui (2nd) – Back and in traffic on turning, once he found clear running he hit the line to just miss and run second.  This gelding for mine peaks now, can be followed strongly in future events at the same class / distance range.

Race 9 – Its on! In Sydney Handicap (1400m)

Nothing of note in this race.
