Runners to watch: Rosehill, December 10

Blackbookers from Saturday's Rosehill meeting.

video analysis

Race 1 – Schweppes Handicap (1100m)

Notes: Slowly run first 600m of the race turned it into a sprint home, all runners had their chance to win including odds on favourite Coorg. Would want to see them all again before making any conclusions.

Race 2 – #theraces Plate (1400m)

Achi Baba (2nd): Sat on speed and fought on gamely to just be beaten by the inform Zumbelina.  Came away from third and rising sharply in grade from a big win in a Beaumont maiden. There looks to be another win in this 3 year old gelding very shortly.

Race 3 – TAB Highway Handicap (1400m)

I Told Georgie (1st): Big run! Only second up and was caught wide early so Blake Shinn dropped it back to last.  Looking only a place chance turning, it produced a strong last 600m along the fence to produce a last-to-first win going away. In similar grade will be winning more races this preparation

Notes: The Nickster was unable to cross, lead and dictate and was gone at the 200m. Disappointing run on face value from the favourite after his last two runs were very strong

Race 4 – Electro Mechanical Services Handicap (1400m)

Notes: Firm favourite Dixie Chick was unplaced, had every possible chance to beat Girl Sunday who continued on its winning ways and defied a betting drift to score in comfortable style. Doesn’t rate as a strong race in my books.

Race 5 – TAB Rewards Sprint (1100m)

Top Striker (2nd): Sat on a good tempo and kicked strongly down the straight. to only be beaten by the well tried favourite Sugar Bay Leonard right on the line. Has been up for a while this preparation but is continuing to race well and can be followed again with confidence.

Sugar Bay Leonard (1st): Rising through the grades well this preparation, very good last 600m of the race hitting the line hard to beat Top Striker who ran well, is very consistent and horse on the up and can be followed throughout this preparation

Race 6 – ATC Members Christmas Handicap (2000m)

Notes: Not a strong form race going forward, a blanket finish with horses of limited ability. I would tread carefully about jumping into short odds about future runners from this event.

Race 7 – TAB Handicap (1400m)

High Midnight (1st): lead at a good tempo, kicked strongly again at the top of the straight. They had their chance to run past him but he was just too strong, recording a solid time for the 1400m. Only second up this preparation and looks set to be around the mark in its coming runs.

Race 8 – Pluck @ Vinery Handicap (1500m)

Kandinsky (5th): Slow away and settled at the tail whilst his history has been racing midfield to forward. Given almost no hope of winning on the turn, he hit the line very strongly in a good race time. Still learning his craft and looks to still be on the up this preparation

Race 9 – Sprint(1200m)

Notes: Not a race to get overly excited about going forward, wiuth a 40/1 winner trapped wide on speed and they couldn’t beat it. A few hard luck stories however that you can forgive when doing the form for their next start.  Hand From Above should have placed at least and was good first up. Louie Sea Kay didn’t see a lot of clear space in the straight. Favourite What Could Be got chopped out of a run at the 200m and was eased down, and should have finished closer.
