Runners to watch: Rosehill, March 11th

Race 1 – Schweppes Handicap (1350m)

Spectroscope (1st) – First-up and was last into the straight. Hooked to the middle of the track to record a very strong win. He was coming away from them on the line. Will be improved by that effort and looks like more races over the carnival will be coming his way. Keep following.

Race 2 –Smooth FM Maurice McCarten Stakes (1200m)

Fickle Folly (3rd) – Up sharply in class and sat behind the leaders on what was a good speed. She was entitled to knock up in the straight but kept kicking on to hold third. Looks very hard to beat next start back in its right class.

Race 3 – Pago Pago Stakes (1200m)

Note – Slipper winner will not be coming out of this race, figures don’t stack up with the favourite runners. The winner and second both ran well and can be followed in the lesser 2YO races.

Race 4 – Magic Night Stakes (1200m)

Tulip (1st) – Sat midfield and three wide in the run, however turning loomed up to win and put the field away in impressive fashion. Goes into the Slipper which will be a big step up, however should only be improved with that effort.

Race 5 – Sky High Stakes (2000m)

Tavago (1st) – He’s back! ATC Derby winner who raced just off the pace today, turning for home his turn-of-foot was too good for them and put 3 lengths on the field. Very talented horse when right and maybe races better the Sydney way of going. Keep following through this preparation as he’ll be winning another before its done.

Race 6 – Phar Lap Stakes (1500m)

Foxplay (1st) – Sent out and odds-on favourite and was well back when turning for home. Ran into trouble at the 300m mark and looked like it might have been a hard luck story, however when she saw daylight she sprinted very quickly to record an excellent victory. Racing well and at peak fitness

Race 7 – Coolmore Classic (1600m)

Note – Lots of strong runs and will be an excellent form reference going forward as so many runners had strong form. The first four across the line were all excellent. Happy to forgive Dixie Blossoms with the hard run and forgiving Omei Sword with barrier 19.

Race 8 – Ajax Stakes (1500m)

New Tipperary (2nd) – Sat three-wide the trip up on the speed turning for home and looked as if he would possibly drop out, however he fought on very bravely to just miss. Looks ready to win now and will be a big chance in anything he contests.

Race 9 – Handicap (1900m)

Nothing of note in this race.
