Race reviews: Randwick, August 19th

Race 1 – 2GB Silver Shadow Stakes  (1200m)

Note – Small field however a very exciting finish with Formality leading from barrier to box in quick time to just get the win over Alizee who was every chance in running second and looked the winner at the 200m and Champagne Cuddles into third. The first three have very good ability and can be followed with confidence at their next starts

Race 2 – Randwick Mayor’s Cup (2400m)

Note – Big shock with the hot pot Sayed looking all over a winner at the 200m getting run down by roughie Auvray. Sayed had a lovely run in transit and peeled out the right time however was just felt wanting the last 100m to be run down by Auvray who ran on well from the tail to score. They cleared out from third who was Vassal. Prepared to forgive Get On The Grange who worked hard early into the strong breeze and knocked up in the straight.

Race 3 – Harvey Norman TAB Highway Plate (1600m)

Note – Excellent victory to My Tagoson sitting mid field with cover and commencing a three wide run and scoring in impressive fashion by 2.3 lengths. Second was Last Try Wins who was solid in running second after being 4 wide down the side. Chandana was every chance into third worked to the line. The unlucky runner was the favourite Arrestar who was badly held up however hit the line well late to just miss the placings

Race 4 – Broccolini Handicap (1400m)

Note – Comin’ Through led the whole way after controlling the speed and kicking strongly in the straight to hold off Life Less Ordinary who first up and last on the turn and ran on very well to finish second and one to follow from the race. Mogador was every chance in finishing third after a good run behind the leader. Inz’N’Out was disappointing after racing outside the leader. Both Petrossian & Embley are forgive runs after racing wide without cover in the strong winds

Race 5 – Alpha Flight Up & Coming (1300m)

Note  – Good win to Dracarys coming wide before the turn and sprinted quickly to just get there over Gold Standard who had a very similar run to the winner however was just outgunned in the straight Sanctioned was the best of the on pace runners boxing on to hold third. Thought Toga Picta was touch unlucky and should have finished closer. Favourite Calculated was disappointing and dropped out on turning to finish last.

Race 6 – Bob Ingham Warwick Stakes (1400m)

Note – What a race! The champ got there…just! Missing the kick by 4-5 lengths she round them up in the straight, she looks to have come back as good as ever. Foxplay was excellent almost pinching it along with Ecuador filling the minor placings and can both be followed from the race.

Race 7 – Sydney Markets Toy Show Quality (1300m)

Note –  Sweet Redemption held on leading the from barrier to box in sizzling time to score a good victory. Kicked strongly on turning and held off the fast finishing Euro Angel who was a touch unlucky not to win after being slightly held up for a run. Imposing Lass was third and had every chance after being given a nice run.

Race 8 – Suttons Show County Quality (1200m)

Note – Deploy got in done after having a nice one out one back run and letting down  good enough to beat The Virginian who was every chance however still ran very well coming from back in the field. Favourite Omei Sword almost fell at the start and is a total forgive run. Spectroscope was disappointing and Invader didn’t offer a lot. The Back markers were always going to struggle to win when they run home in 33.02 for the last 600m

Race 9 – Primo Handicap (1000m)

Note – Big win by Super Too who went like last week’s pay in front kicking well in front before the turn to hold on from the fast finishing Last Witness & Gibraltar Girl who both ran on well from back in field. Favourite Clipper was in a chasing position and never looked like winning.
