Runners to watch: Randwick, December 30th

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Randwick.

barrier trials

Race 1 – New Years Day At Royal Randwick Plate (1100m)

Note – A rough result to start the day with Quackerjack saluting at $21. After sitting a touch wide in the run he quickened well in the straight to run down the leader in the final 100m. Very good debut effort. Race favourite Secret Lady was second and led them up and gave a good kick in the straight. Every chance to salute however was still a strong on pace effort. Everard ran on soundly from midfield however did have a very good run on the rails and didn’t go around a runner. Legislation was every chance in running fourth after having a nice run behind the leaders. Morpheus was well supported however offered little in the run. The run of Fearless Girl was better than it looks on paper slow away and struck interference mid race and worked to the line soundly.

Race 2 – TAB Handicap (1300m)

Note – Only a field of five faced the starter but it may have just unearthed a smart one.  Sasso Corbaro sat just behind the leaders and got the split at the top of the straight and sprinted to well to score and impressive fashion and slick time making it now two in a row after an impressive performance at Hawkesbury the start before. Kissing Game was every chance in running second after having a nice run in transit. Epidemic probably should have finished second after behind held up in the straight however both never looked a winning chance. Going forward stick with Sasso Corbaro looks well above average

Race 3 – Book Summer Hospitality Today Mile (1600m)

Note – Another small field with just 6 facing the starter. It however turned in a one horse race with Dreamforce being able to lead easily and dictate in front he kicked strongly to win by almost 6 lengths. Hunter Jack was second and sat behind the leader however just couldn’t go with the winner. Liapari was not too bad into third as he was given no chance of winning the way the race was run. He did run on well enough to finish third and looks to be at peak performance very soon. Going forward Dreamforce is racing well however be weary if it finds a race with a bit more pressure in it as it will most probably go up short after its dominate performance today.

Race 4 – TAB.COM.AU Handicap (1100m)

Note – Just the five faced the starter here. Pendeloque jumped well and found the lead and kicked strongly in the straight to win well first up and will only be improved from that effort. The overall time and sectional both very good.  Junglized sat outside the leader and was every chance in running second. I would be forgiving to race favourite Kennedy who sat three wide the trip and kicked on well in the straight to run third just over a length from the winner. Going forward stick with Kennedy who faced the breeze in the run and did a good job to hold third.

Race 5 – #THERACES Handicap (1200m)

Note  – Good win by hot favourite Brave Song sat behind the leaders and quickened well in the straight to score quite comfortably in the end. He was the only one in the race that made up ground in the straight. Crafty Cop was second and ran well leading at a good clip and kicking strongly. Just was no match for talented winner. Flow was third and every chance for mine after sitting on pace. Worth nothing both 2nd and 3rd put a nice margin between them and 4th. Nothing else made an impression on this race. Going forward stick with Brave Song who has more wins in it this preparation.

Race 6 – TAB Highway Handicap (1100m)

Note – Very nice win to All Stand who chased the tearaway leader Our Dasha then kicked well in the straight to score. Brave effort. Remittance was second and ran on soundly to fill a placing, the pace of this event did favour those swooping late. Acquittal was a very similar story getting back and running soundly to run third. Takookacod who was well in the betting didn’t offer a lot in the run. Going forward you have to stick with the winner, did it both ends of the race and has finished no worse than 4th in his career.

Race 7 – Christmas Classic (1200m)

Note – The million dollar man Music Magnate scored in good style. Jumped well to sit forward and then when challenged in the straight fought on well to score. Looks to have come back in good order. Dotharki was second and every chance after having a good run behind the leaders. Isorich led them up and fought on well again to hold third. He just doesn’t know how to run a bad race. Supreme Effort looked the winner at the 200m however just ran out of steam. He will be better for that effort next start and looks like it will be picking up a race this preparation. One for the blackbook I thought was Denpurr who hit the line very the final 200m after a 12 week let up and will be fitter for that effort.

Race 8 – Hyland Boxing Day Sale (1800m)

Note – I was Waller runners making up the first four across the line in this event. Hogmanay saluted after leading and dictating the pace and kicking strongly to score. Has ability can just be hard to catch. Vaucluse Bay was second and sat on pace looks ready to win after three runs back now. Xebec was close third and worked to the line soundly after getting back to worse than midfield. Race favourite Zourkhan was every chance in fourth after having a nice run just off the pace. I would be checking the stewards report on Chatelard who was getting pushed along before the turn and is better than that. Going forward I would be sticking with Vaucluse Bay who is now at peak fitness and ready to win.

Race 9 – ATC Owners Benefit Card Sprint (1200m)

Note – Very good win to Sugar Bella got back worse than midfield and let down with a very strong sprint in the straight to win in very fast overall time. That now makes it 4 from 5. She is very smart. Reward For Fashion was second and led at a fast clip and di well to hold onto second at the big price. The winner was just too good. A drop in class next start will have her going close next start. Kawaikini ran on well very late to run third however never looked a winning chance. Anatola wasn’t able to find the front today and offered little. Both O’rachael & Savatiano offered little and were very plain. Going forward stick with the winner who will be winning a lot more races.
