Race reviews: Randwick, June 24th
Race 1 – Mcgrath Estate Agent Plate (1200m)
Note – Lipizzan continued her very consistent preparation with a soft 2.8 length victory Last Starfighter who was every chance in running second. The well tried Star Galaxy who finished third raced a touch wide and I would be willing to be a little forgiving. The 3 Goldolphin runners in the race didn’t do anything
Race 2 – Hyland EOFY Sale (1200m)
Note – The winner and well backed Memes was gifted the lead after crossing from a wide gate, dictated the speed and kicked strongly to cruise to victory. Both Aquatic & Ghostly were just too far back in the run however both hit the line well without ever threatening the winner. The rest of the beaten brigade had every chance
Race 3 – Schweppes Handicap (1400m)
Note – Almost a copy and past of race 2! The winner Yuma Desert was able to lead and dictate then kicked strongly to cruise to a soft victory. Test The World continued her good preparation with a solid second however every chance. Thought Reiby Rampart ran well into third and can be followed at a weaker grade. Heavenly Anna was a forgive run after being trapped wide
Race 4 – TAB Highway Handicap (1200m)
Barricade (2nd) – Excellent run to how the track was playing. Snagged back to last in the run, started a 3 wide run before the turn and made up many lengths down the straight to just go down to the well tried winner. Based on that effort looks very hard to beat back on the country circuit next start for this 3 year old.
Note – Conniving got the job done for Matthew Dunn giving him an amazing 10 TAB Highway wins. The stable mates Leap Of Legend & Runway Ready were both sound in defeat and will be picking up races back on the country circuit soon.
Race 5 – Ron Finemore Transport Handicap (2400m)
Note – Slugging finish however Collateral was just to strong and made it 4 wins in a row and at his first attempt at 2400m and 4 out of 4 on heavy tracks. Richard Of Yorke offered little and would want to check a stewards report there as he dropped out sharply. Epsom Hill was brave in running second however does struggle to win.
Race 6 – Racing To Win Handicap (1600m)
Note – Sound Proposition sitting on a very moderate tempo won well appreciating the drop back in class from Group 1 level. Of the beaten brigade, Old North did nothing in the run, heavy track a possible excuse? Liapari was just a pass winding up to late to trouble the winner. Destiny’s Kiss worked to the line soundly and looks ready to step up to the staying distances and be very competitve
Race 7 – Can Assist Winter Dash (1200m)
Note – Not a huge form race this one! Winner Boss Lane broke 524 day winning drought and second was Wouldnt It Be Nice who has not won for 748 days. The two favoured runners Inz’n’out & Tessara were both disappointing after having good runs. Just grab your big red pen when doing form from this race!
Race 8 – Tamworth Professionals (1400m)
Pelethronius (1st) – Sat midfield one off the fence, turning for home came to the middle of the straight and let down well to score in good fashion. A winner of all 3 starts this preparation and loves the wet tracks. Keep following through the winter months
Note – Conarchie ran along at a good tempo and stuck on well to run second although the track conditions were playing into his favour. Level Eight was well tried and ran home soundly into third. Gold Ambition is coming along nicely only second up and looks like he is ready for the staying trips
Race 9 – Jackson Pastoral Company Guyra Handicap (1400m)
Note – Rough result here with Salerno winning at $41 coming from well back and scouting wide to get the bob in over Pro Consul at $26. Lion Couchant was excellent in third after racing wide on speed and kept kicking to just miss. Of the rest Loverboy Charlie hit the line well after being hampered, stick with him over 1000m races. With only 2.4 lengths between the first 7 I can’t see it being a strong form race
