Runners to watch: Randwick, March 10th

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Randwick.

Race 1 – Aspiration Quality  (1600m)

Note – Karavali scored in a tight three way finish after given a perfect ride from Collett back on the rails a touch worse than midfield and sprinting well to narrowly rundown The Pinnacle who was every chance for mine after settling just behind the leaders in a good trailing spot was just nabbed in the shadows of the post. Nettoyer ran on well to finish third and came very wide on turning. It was another solid performance. Looks ready to win. Of the beaten runs I like the run of Pioneering who led them up until the final 100m when swamped late and I would be forgiving to Shagra who did work wide early in the run and dropped out in the straight. Going forward stick with Nettoyer looks ready to win.

Race 2 – Fireball Stakes (1100m)

Note – I Am Excited made it two in a row after sitting midfield getting to the middle the middle of the track and sprinting to well to narrowly beat Acqume  who  at the nice each way odds of $17 sat just behind the leaders and sprinted well in the straight however just found the winner too good in the end. These two cleared out from third who was Houtzen who led them up into the straight however was under siege at the 200m and battled on ok to finish third. Will be better for that effort however was a little plain for a horse of her ability. Of the rest Jorda didn’t offer a lot first up and might need to see again. Perast was good late hitting the line well and will be better for that effort. Going forward the winner is going well and can be supported with confidence and Perast looks to have come back in good order this preparation.

Race 3 – Reisling Stakes (1200m)

Note – The hot pot Estijaab got there without being super impressive. Was able to find the front and kicked strongly in the straight to hold off the challenges in the final 200m. Pure elation sat just behind the winner and tried hard along the fence to run the short priced favourite to 0.4 lengths on the line. Good debut from Sister Sledge at huge odds ($81) sitting outside the leader and winner and kicking on strongly in the straight to hold third. Very good for something easier. Gongs was a solid performance however was every chance to run down the winner and I would forget the run of Outback Barbie who was trapped wide throughout. Going forward the winner was solid without being impressive. Both second and third can be followed in something slightly easier next starts.

Race 4 – Todman Stakes (1200m)

Note – A boil over in this with Aylmerton saluting at $17 making two in a row after sitting just behind the leader and being able to hug the fence as the leader rolled off to score over Ef Troop who led them up and kicked strongly in the straight however the winner just had a softer run in transit. Tchaikovsky sat just behind the leaders and worked to the line well however was every chance to run down the first two. Those who missed the money was the short priced favourite Performer who ducked out to the outside fence and dislodging Bowman at around the 200m mark. I’m not sure he would of won from his position. Legend Of Condor sat outside the leader and battled on ok to run fourth just no match for the winner. I would be forgiving to Exceltic who was hampered by the Performer incident. Going forward it was a quick time event so happy to be with the winner who has made it 2 from 2 and Ef Troop who was game on pace. I would be forgiving to Performer as well.

Race 5 – Challenge Stakes (1000m)

Note  – They went quickly in this with Super Too leading and setting a cracking speed up front. She was eventually run down by the champion Redzel who settled third in the run and picked up the leader in the final 200m to win well. Good effort. Jungle edge was second and sat second in the run and did a good job for something easier fighting on well to the line. Super Too fell in for third after setting a break neck speed. Another who was a good effort something easier. The rest were just run off their legs after the early speed the best of the run on horses were Virdine & English who both were sound to the line just got to far back. Going forward Redzel is going really well and both Jungle Edge & Super Too were very good for easier assignments next start.

Race 6 – Canterbury Stakes (1300m)

Note – Happy Clapper was good winner in this sitting midfield off a strong tempo and sprinting to well to score over another brave effort from Global Glamour who led them up and again kicked strongly however was nabbed in the final 150m. Invincible Gem was in the same positon as Happy Clapper and ran on solidly to finish third however no threat to the winner. Showtime sat outside the leader and didn’t offer a lot in the straight dropping out and Clearly Innocent who drifted in betting got well back and didn’t run on as expected. The overall time of the race was excellent so both Happy Clapper & Global Glamour can be followed with a high level of confidence.

Race 7 – Randwick Guineas (1600m)

Note – We might of found a new star of the turf here with Kementari winning stylishly sitting midfield one off the fence and sprinting well to win comfortably on the line over Pierata who was a good performance sitting just behind the speed and sprinted well however just found the winner too good. Trapeze Artists sat outside the leader and battled on strongly to hold third. One to follow going forward is Ace High who took off early sitting 4-5 wide on turning and looked gone however kicked strongly again in the final 150m. Looks right on course for the Derby. All honours to the winner undefeated this preparation and won in slick time against quality opposition. A star has been born!

Race 8 – Wenona Girl Quality (1200m)

Note – Sugar Bella made it 4 in a row with an impressive last to first victory. She dug deep the final 200m to overhaul Miss Que in second who took off a touch earlier than the winner and looked like it had got there until the final 100m when the winner launched at the line. Very good performance for a weaker event next start. Perizada was another who ran well taking the step up in grade and sitting just behind the pace she battled on well in the straight to hold on third. Slow Burn who was well in the market raced wide however didn’t offer a lot in the straight. One I thought that we can follow is one called My Country who at a good price ran on well late and from the strong Snowden yard and two runs back from a freshen up can ran well in something easier next start. Going forward the winner is very classy and looks like she can step up even higher in grade next start.

Race 9 – Randwick City Stakes (2000m)

Note – Emperor’s Way kept his winning run going sitting outside the leader in a slowly run race and kicked strongly in the straight to hold off the fast finishing Alward who raced 3 wide from the final 800m and launched late to just miss the winner. Singing held onto third leading them up into the straight controlling the slow pace. Both Liapari & Tally were solid to the line without ever looking winning chances. With under four lengths from first to last I would be reluctant to hold this race as a strong form reference going forward.
