Runners to watch: Randwick, October 14th

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Randwick.

Race previews: Randwick, October 14th

Race 1 –TAB Highway  Consolation Handicap (1400m)

Note – Don’t Give A Damn for barrier 14 crossed and lead and kick strongly to win in very good time. Winner is a class above that lot and will be winning more races. Keep following. Schedule ran on soundly to finish second and is always competitive in this class of race. Super Star Bob was 3 wide from the 1000m and ran on well to finish third another who can win in similar grade. Zamex now with two runs under his belt looks ready to win, classy when right and watch for him in this class again. All about the winner however going forward.

Race 2 – Victory Vein Plate (1000m)

Note – Legend Of Condor lead from barrier to box winning in good fashion to score over Spin who was every possible chance to beat the winner as he didn’t have to go around a horse with a rails hugging ride. Stunts ran on well from the tail to finish third and will be improved with the run and extra distance next start. These three put a good gap back to fourth. Munich who was unplaced and was well in the market travelled wide throughout and dint offer a lot in the straight, happy to forgive that effort. Not a race to get overly excited about form wise

Race 3 – Reginald Allen Quality (1400m)

Note – Torvill saluted after an excellent rails hugging ride from Jason Collett, well specked in betting ($18-$10). Yulong Xingsheng in second who was wide the trip and only run down in the last 100m was excellent in running second. Workdrinks who raced on pace was solid in third however every chance for mine. Of the beaten brigade Regimen was every chance on pace running 4th. Both Aonair & Sweet Deal travelled wide and didn’t offer a lot in the straight, slight forgives for both. Only 1.8L covered the first seven across the line so not a lot between them going forward.

Race 4 – TAB Anniversary Highway Handicap (1400m)

Note – After All That was another rails hugging ride winner, setting behind the speed he got the breaks in the straight to win over the fast finishing Suncraze who ran on very well out wide and is the one to follow. Bring A Secret held on well for third after setting a good early speed in front. Le Cavalier was another who came wide which is not the place to be and ran on very well for 4th at huge odds. One to watch in easier grade. Equal favourite Pumpkin Pie was held up in the straight and never got a crack at them a forgive run.

Race 5 – The Star Mile (1600m)

Note  –Race favourite Invincibella who was given a good ride just behind the speed quickened to well to score in solid fashion over Lubiton who was tried in the betting, almost leading the whole way to run second. In which was a good effort. Harper’s Choice pulled hard in the run however to let down solid enough to finish third and looks ready to win. Souchez also ran on well in the wrong part of the track to just miss the placings. Not sure I would want to be jumping into a short quote next start about the winner as it was given a prefect ride and just got there.

Race 6 – Colgate Optic White Stakes (1600m)

Note – Big Duke scored after giving a perfect run in transit from Avdulla hugging the fence the whole way which was the bias of the day. Racing well and looks set to go to the Melbourne Cup. Auvray got back and snuck along the fence to run second in what was another excellent run this preparation. Will win again in slightly easier grade. Cismontane was excellent in third leading the up in the straight and kept kicking to hold on to the minor placing. Liked the run of Libran back and wide and still up lengths in the straight, is hard to catch however it was a good run. Total forgive for Who Shot Thebarman trapped wide and hooked wider on the turn, wasn’t the place to be today

Race 7 – Sydney Stakes (1200m)

Note – In Her Time well ridden scored in quicker time than the Everest winner Redzel. Settling just behind the speed he quickened to well to score. Keep following. Impending a huge run first up coming from well back in the field to narrowly go down. Looks to have come back in good order.Ball Of Muscle solid on speed running third. Of the beaten runners I thought Kaepernick was very good after been checked at the top of the straight and only finished just over 3 lengths from the winner. All about the winner in this event though she is top class.

Race 8 – The TAB Everest (1200m)

Note – Redzel won the big one, with a very good ride from McEvoy getting him to the right position and quickened well to hold on over Vega Magic who was given an average ride and flew home to run second. It was the run of the race clearly. Brave Smash was excellent in running third at huge odds and looks ready to win in something easier. Of the rest Chautauqua was very good running 4th as the track conditions didn’t really suit his style. English also received a pass mark for her run. She Will Reign was disappointing after getting into a good position for mine however didn’t offer a lot in the straight.

Race 9 – Craven Plate (2000m)

Note – Classic Uniform lead from barrier to box to score in tough fashion over Happy Clapper who on paper you would of thought from barrier 1 might have been looking to use the bias of the day however 4-5 wide on turning and came down the middle of the straight. Don’t sack on that effort. Mccreery  was solid in running third . For favourite backers watching Vega Magic then into Happy Clapper you might be heading to the bar for a stiff drink

Race 10 – Sydney Harbour Sprint (1000m)

Note – Carnage at the start with both Machinegun Jubs & Balancing Act both losing their riders at the start. Grand Condor held on in a very tight finish leading for go to woe. Pick Me Up was sound running second however every chance from the position he had in the run, just couldn’t quite reel in the winner. Arise Augustus very good running third and looks set to win something abit easier. Rebel Miss & Realise Potential both very good being wide and coming down the inferior part of the straight. Only 2.3L covered the first 10 across the line so they are a very even lot.
