Runners to watch: Randwick, October 21st

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Randwick.

Race reviews: Randwick, October 21st

Race 1 – Kirkham Plate (1000m)

Note – Legislation won the first sitting just behind the speed and sprinting to well in the straight to record a strong debut victory. He was specked in the betting ($13 – $9) and didn’t let his supporters down. Fiesta again ran on very well late for second and is looking for longer than this distance. Gododdin solid debut effort running third. Race favourite and well tried Alshahhad raced keenly outside the leader and was gone at 300m mark in what was a disappointing effort.

Race 2 – 2CH Handicap (1600m)

Note – Smart win by Kaonic sat back and peeled wide at the top of the straight and let down like a good horse to win comfortably. Luvaluva ran on well late to finish second after being hampered for a run at the top of the straight. Sambro solid enough in third however every chance for mine. Sky Boy was pretty good for something easier and forget Our Mantra went around after being trapped wide throughout the race. The winner looks smart keep following

Race 3 – TAB Highway Handicap (1100m)

Note – She Knows proved to strong sitting outside the lead and kicking strongly at the 300m to just hold on over the fast finishing I Am Capitan who drove at it late to almost run the winner down after sitting behind the speed. Attainment ran along well along the fence in the straight to sneak into third. I thought going forward we should be on Highway Sixtysix if it goes back to maiden grade, flew home late and looks at coming winner at that level very soon. Larlabrook did very little and was disappointing on face value. Not the strongest TAB Highway we have seen for a form reference going forward

Race 4 – Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m)

Note – Small field faced the starter and it was the old timer Destiny’s Kiss who  was well supported sat back and in the straight wore down race favourite Alward who was every possible chance and seems to do his best racing on a firm surface. Admiral Jello in third was very chance. Winner was to good and Alward with a question mark over can be produce his best in rain affected conditions. Not an event to get to excited about going forward.

Race 5 – ClubsNSW Handicap (1400m)

Note  – Improvement jumped well and lead and fought off all the challengers to fall in to score. Collateral was an excellent first up running finishing second and looks to have come back in good order. King Darci was solid in third however every chance after having a nice trail behind the leader. Dagny every chance and Peacock was disappointing as he dropped out of the contest at the 200m and ran last. Taking nothing away from the winner who was just to strong late, I would be watching for Collateral probably 3rd or 4th up this preparation to be winning if placed correctly.

Race 6 – Brian Crowley Handicap (1200m)

Note – Raced favourite Goodfella was just that to good! Not the best away and came very wide on turning and proved to strong down the straight to make it two wins in a row. Piracy who was every possible chance in running second and had a good run in transit sitting outside the leader. Andaz ran on well to finish third and was a clear last on the turn. Both Malahat & Albumin were every chance in the run. All about the winner and third out of this event going forward

Race 7 – ICD Nivison (1200m)

Note – The inform White Moss kept her impressive winning strike rate going making it 5 wins from 8 starts sitting outside the speed and kicking strongly to win well. Keep following her she is a winner. Zestful ran a really good race at big odds sitting wide and sticking on well for second, looks ready to win in a lower grade. Kinshachi was sound in running third however every chance to win the race. The three class runners Heavens Above, Dixie Blossoms and Daysee Doom all found the 1200m abit to sharp for them after dropping back in distance from the 1600m, however all were strong late and look on target to run well in Melbourne should they head that way

Race 8 – Procare Property Handicap (1600m)

Note – Big priced winner in Mortar Platoon who got the gaps at the top of the straight and sprinted well to score and continue his strong second up record. Impavido was well tried and ran on very well late after coming wide on turning, looks ready to win for mine. Better today from Hogmanay running on soundly in the straight to finish third. Screamarr was sound running fourth running on steadily in the straight. Both Mapmaker & Gauguin went quickly on speed and both knocked up in the straight

Race 9 – Jem Computer Systems (1200m)

Note – My Country who sat back on a good speed and sprinted well down the middle to score over Crafty Cop who sat second and battled on well to run second in the straight and looks ready to pick up a race soon. Short priced favourite New Universe who got to a similar spot as My Country however only really got going late to run third in which on face value looked abit disappointing. A very even field to end the day and not a lot to get excited about out of this event unfortunately
