Race reviews: Randwick, October 7th

Race 1 – BRMM Handicap (1400m)

Note – Excellent performance from Goodfella who was specked in betting sitting three wide on speed and it good time was too strong in the straight for Our Mantra who sat last in the run and hit the line well to run second .Sparky Lad was solid in running third however every chance to win the race. Regent was disappointing and very easy in betting offering very little in the straight.  I would check the stewards report for French Tune who dropped out sharply in the straight. Going forward it’s all about the winner and second for mine.

Race 2 – IGA Liquor Handicap (2000m)

Note – Just the field of 3 and all Wallers! Alward got the job done sitting last in the small field and proving to strong down the straight over Up’N’Rolling  who was every chance in the run and could only manage second. Veladero held on ok for third after setting a good early pace in front and only finished a couple lengths from the winner. Not too much to get excited about in this event

Race 3 – Adina Apartments Hotels (1600m)

Note – Good win by the well supported favourite Interlocuter sitting behind the speed in the run and kicking away nicely to score with ease and can be followed. Mapmaker was also good in running second caught wide and drifted a lot further back than usually does in the run. Was well supported in betting also and held on well for second. Impavido solid enough in running third however never looked a winning chance. Hogmanay was very easy in betting and was slowly away , ended up running 4th. Back to Rosehill might see a better performance from him. Follow the winner going forward.

Race 4 – TAB HIghway Handicap (1600m)

Note – Should rename these events the Matt Dunn Handicaps! Another winner for him and the trifecta in this event. Bronzed Venom well ridden by Avdulla got the gaps at the right time after sitting midfield on the fence, over the well supported Cascata Rossa who was every possible chance in running second. Run of the race was Dia De Reyes who missed the starts by a couple lengths and ran on well to finish third. Sovereignaire who finished 5th should of finished closer to the placings after being held up in the straight, good run for something easier. Schedule who was well in the market did nothing in the run and wasn’t sighted

Race 5 – Bowerman’s Office Furniture Handicap (1400m)

Note  – Sir Plush backed off the map and got the job done leading from barrier to box in quick time. Mighty Lucky was solid in running second sitting behind the leader, however every chance to beat the winner. Was a good run for something easier. All Our Roads was good hitting the line first up, will be fitter for that effort. Souchez made up many lengths in the straight to just miss the placings and Shillelagh was unlucky to not finish closer after being held up in the straight. Duca Valentinois was trapped wide and first up, forgive that effort. Burning Passion was disappointing and dropped out sharply. The winner is low flying at present and hard to beat in anything at this level.

Race 6 – Roman Consul Stakes (1200m)

Note – Well back favourite Viridine made it 4 from 4 sprinting to well once the gap appeared to win running away. Keep following him. Single Bullet was solid in running second however every chance to beat the winner. Beau Geste was good in running third after being trapped wide and looks to peak in fitness for mine another one to follow. Albumin made good ground up the straight to just miss the placings, however needs something abit easier. Forget Chauffeur went around after missing the start and trapped wide.

Race 7 – Spring Champion (2000m)

Note – Ace High had things run to suit to take out the G1, he kicked strongly at the top of the straight and held of the fast finishing Tangled who was good in running second and can be followed from the event. Sully in third hit the line very well from well back in the field. Sanctioned was never going to from its position in the run however hit the line in good style. Forget the run of Astoria who was trapped wide for majority of the race, did a good job to get as close as possible. Going forward Tangled looks close to breaking through

Race 8 – Mostyn Copper Group Angst Stakes (1600m)

Note – Dixie Blossoms won well sitting midfield and peeled to the middle and let down well to win in good style over the ever consistent Daysee Doom who was solid again running second. These two are a class above this field and both racing well. Zenalicious ran on well to finished third at a good price and looks set to win in something easier very soon. Going forward it’s all about first and second

Race 9 – Metropolitan Civil Handicap (2000m)

Note – Chalk got the job done in the last at good each way odds, sitting just behind the speed and proving too strong. Showed he had some ability last preparation and looks to have come back in good order. The well backed Redouble was second and every chance in the run. Will be fitter for that effort. Firsthand in third drifted well back and it the line well. Will strip fitter for thateffort and looks one to follow in similar class. Piracy was a big drifter in on course betting and was every chance in running 4th. Thought the run of roughie Savvan was quite good first up and will be better for the run
