Race reviews: Randwick, September 30th
Race 1 – Breeders Plate (1000m)
Note – Performer won and won well after missing the kick he was able to sit off the pace and just prove too good in the run home in what as a very good effort. Bondi box seated in the run and was a solid debut effort running second, however every chance to beat the winner. Santos, Spin & Osorno all ran on soundly without ever looking like a winner and will be better for the run. Favourite Heimal went quickly in front however knocked up at 200m to finish unplaced. All honours with the winner Performer who was just too good
Race 2 – Gimcrack Stakes (1000m)
Note – Satin Slipper won the fillies edition sitting midfield and sprinting quickly from back in the field to score in the last bound over Setsuna who raced wide and kicked strongly in the straight to look the winner however was picked up right on the line. It was a good debut performance. Fiesta ran on soundly from well back for third. A couple I thought were better than what the run reads on paper are Galina who was held up in the straight and did hit the line well once clear. Bold Arial who was slow away then badly held up in the straight and must be a total forgive run and favourite Witherspoon who raced very wide through the whole race. Time was quite abit slower that the boys division so it was definitely the weaker of the 2yo events when going forward with the form.
Race 3 – Dulcify Quality (1800m)
Note – Tight four way finish to this event with Ataraxia having a good a good run behind the speed proving just abit to strong in the straight over Dissolution who was well back on turning however ran on well to almost pick up the winner. Sambro was third and made his move before the turn and almost held on. Tangled just missed the placings and arguably should of won after having to switch around the leaders at the 150m mark. Not a lot between the first 4 going forward. Langley was just a touch disappointing in the straight after being in a similar position to Tangled however couldn’t sprint aswell.
Race 4 – Hill Stakes (1800m)
Note – Classic Uniform had an easy time in front through the run and fought off Embley in the straight to hold on to win. Embley continued the very good preparation in running second however was every chance in the run. Mackintosh raced greenly in the straight ducking in behind the winner however was able to hold third after being given a good run. Thought the run of Maurus was very good having little chance to win with the tempo of the race he was set alight early for the tail and held on for fourth at a big price. The rest offered little in race however it was always going to be hard with the cheap sectionals the leader was getting.
Race 5 – Flight Stakes (1600m)
Note – Alizee was excellent and a class above her rivals sitting last and put the field to the sword in about 100m. Dominate victory. Champagne Cuddles good again in second running on from the back, she put a could margin between her and third and is racing well just found one abit better. Cellargirl was a solid third and good for something a touch easier. The pace was very quick up front with the two roughies going fast in front which did make it easier the backmarkers however she looks top class and it’s all about the winner.
Race 6 – Premiere Stakes (1200m)
Note – In Her Time was given the run of the race behind the leader and just held on in sizzling time. She is now off to The Everest. English was excellent in running second settling a long back and unleashing a strong sprint to almost pick up the winner. Clearly Innocent was another who hit the line well late in running third and looks set for a good preparation. Roughie Takedown was very good on pace in running 4th and looks ready to win in something easier. Favourite Chautauqua was abit flat, could put that down to being second up. I’m sure will be ready for The Everest. Don’t write off the champ yet!
Race 7 – Epsom Handicap (1600m)
Note – Happy Clapper got his G1! Given the run of the race right behind the speed to win in a very quick time. He is in very good form. Tom Melbourne, what do you say? He is running very well just not winning. Looked the winner for a fleeting moment however just couldn’t go on. Snitzson was excellent in running third for something easier after running on well from back in the field. Forgive Comin’ Through raced very wide throughout and battled on ok. The winner is just a class above this lot.
Race 8 – Metropolitan Handicap (2400m)
Note – Foundry given a very good ride was just too strong after two good runs in Victoria. Big Duke looks ready to win again after running second, been slowly building up in distance and today was another solid effort. Looks ready now. Chocante very good on pace holding onto third after a big drift in betting. Favourite Life Less Ordinary was very plain after sitting at the back of the and making no impression in the straight.
Race 9 – Snitzel Sprint (1200m)
Note – Isorich, did it again! The market keeps writing him off but he has done it again. Sitting on pace and in a very tight finish fought off his rivals in a very time quick time. I Thought So was good in running second however every chance to win. Tango Rain set the strong pace and almost held on in a very solid effort. Improvement & Grunderzeit were sound after racing wide. Spright I wouldn’t be touching again until he shows marked improvement. A very tight finish with under one length covering the first 5 across the line and just over 2 lengths for the first 9. Not a lot to get excited about going forward from this event.
