Runners to watch: Rosehill, January 27th

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Rosehill.

Race 1 – TAB Plate (1100m)

Note – Sizzling Belle saluted in the first sitting outside the leader and kicking strongly at the top of the straight to fight off the fast finishing Outrageous who was first up and didn’t have a lot of luck in running. Charged late to just miss. Osorno was third and looked gone at the 200m however found the line as good as anything late. Both Omar & Pembroke Castle who were both well in the betting didn’t offer a lot on their debuts and will need to be seen again. Going forward stick with both Outrageous & Osorno both hit the line well and both were first up today and will be a lot fitter for their next assignments

Race 2 – Wilkes Quality (1100m)

Note – Hot pot Siege Of Quebec narrowly scored first up after looking in trouble on the turn when the rider pulled the persuader, the colt responded to score in good fashion. He looks to be in for a good preparation. Kennedy was second and revved up out of the gates to hold the front and kicked strongly on the turn, however was run down the shadows of the post. Both first and second were very good efforts. There was an over three length Single Bullet was third and every chance for mine in the run. Going forward stick with Siege Of Quebec & Kennedy, both were good efforts today.

Race 3 – Owners Forum @ Royal Randwick Handicap (1500m)

Note – Good strong victory to Show A Star who was ridden out of the gates to cross and lead from a wide draw and kicked again in the straight to fight off the swoopers to narrowly score. Good win. Prometheus was second and caught a touch wide early and had to ease back. Fought on well to the line in the straight to run into the money. New Universe was well supported in betting and did his standard run of getting back and running on. Still not sold on him yet about getting a win soon. Eusebio was disappointing and won’t be favourite at his next start. Going forward I liked the run of winner who did it at both ends in good fashion

Race 4 – TAB Highway Handicap (1100m)

Note – Boilover in this with $26 shot The Lion getting back in the field and pulling out to the middle of the track and sprinted to well to score. Another Sin was second and sat outside the leader and was clearly the best of the on pace runners. El Mo was third and got back and ran on very late in what was a solid enough performance. Race favourite Ori On Fire led them up and couldn’t sustain the early speed. Which makes the run of Another Sin look even better. Not too excited about the form out of this event however the run of Another Sin was very good for future events.

Race 5 – Chris Toogood Farewell Handicap (1300m)

Note  – Bratislava got there…just! After having a good run behind the speed he quickened well in the straight to get the bob in right on the line over. Lofty’s Menu who was a much improved performance second up chasing the leader and kicking on well to narrowly go down. Race favourite Samadoubt was third and like last start led them up and like last start was overrun late again. I liked the run of Merovee who took off early after sitting last in the field in a leader dominated race and worked to line well  and will be improved off that first up run. Going forward I would stick with Merovee who looks to have come back well and will be better for that first up run.

Race 6 – #theraces Handicap (1350m)

Note – Good effort by the heavily backed winner  O’rachael who sat outside the leader in the run and kicked strongly to hold off the swoopers in the straight and scramble home narrowly. The Pinnacle, Moss Trip & Witches finished second through to fourth and all have very similar runs they got back and ran on well late  coming down the middle of the straight to just miss the winner. It was under a length between the first four. Gretna had a good run in transit and offered little in the straight. Going forward hard to go past the winner who did it at both ends running on speed and fighting on well late.

Race 7 – Carrington Stakes (1400m)

Note – Good ride from Rachel King on Lanciato was the difference after getting back worse than midfield along the fence she was able to get him to the middle of the track and unleashed a very strong final 100m to score well and make it 2 from 2 this preparation. Prized Icon was second at big odds and every chance for mine after having a good run just off the speed and will be improved with that first up run. Endless Drama who was well backed and was very good first up racing very wide at times and let down well in the straight and looked the winner until condition gave out late. Race favourite George Patton over raced and was gone at the 200m. I would be forgiving of that effort. Going forward all the placegetters were very good, if I had to pick one stick with Endless Drama who will be a lot better for the run.

Race 8 – ATC Owners Benefit Card Handicap (1800m)

Note – Favourite backers saluted with Emperor’s Way scoring a good win after sitting well back in the run he let down well in the straight to narrowly defeat Get On The Grange who sat just behind the speed and went for home on turning and was just nutted on the line late. Gamblestown was third and had a similar run to the winner and was a solid effort for something abit easier next start. Both Atlantic Fox & Nothing Box who was well supported offered nothing in the straight and I would be checking a stewards report about their efforts. Going forward Get On The Grange is close to a win and Emperor’s Way looks to have more wins coming this preparation.

Race 9 – Sprint (1100m)

Note – Easy one for Difficult To Get who sat just behind the leaders and let down like a good horse and sprinted away to score in good fashion. Nice effort. Knight Templar was second was huge odds and sat outside the winner in the run but was no much when the sprint went on. It was a good effort for something abit easier. Ziggy Willie ran on late to get third however looked like troubling the winner. Equal favourite Pedway didn’t offer a lot in the straight after sitting outside the leader and was disappointing. Going forward stick with the winner, if she continues to race like this it won’t be difficult to get  more success this preparation.
