Runners to watch: Rosehill, March 31st

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Rosehill.

Race 1 – The Schweppervescence  (1400m)

Note – A nice win to kick off proceedings to Irukanji sitting wide early in the run and then taken to the front down the side. Kicked strongly in the straight to fight off all challengers. Good performance. Aristocratic Miss ran on well from the tail to run second and continues her strong preparation. Race favourite Spin loomed up in the straight and looked to be a big part of the finish however peaked on his run at the 200m and ran out under pressure, might be looking for a break now. Didn’t mind the run of Ringerdingding who was trapped 4 wide on speed and only gave in late and Futooh didn’t have a lot room in the straight and should of finished closer. However it was all honours to the winner who was just too good today.

Race 2 – Neville Sellwood  Stakes (2000m)

Note – All the way win for Arbeitsam who led ,controlled and kicked strongly in the straight to hold off all challengers in the straight. Very strong on pace effort for the first go at 2000m. Maurus was second and stepped up sharply in trip from last start and ran well. Almost Court was unable to find the lead which has been the formula to recent wins however did run well for a more suitable race. Mccreery was a solid fourth and it was a big gap back to fifth, so I would be concentrating on the first four across the line as a form reference from this race. Going forward both Maurus & Mccreery look ready to win in weaker races next start.

Race 3 – Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m)

Note – The fast finishing Spright bounced back to form first up today sitting last on the turn and peeling wide down the straight to unleash a strong finish to score. Dothraki sat outside the leader in the run and was good in the straight however just found the winner to good. It was another solid performance. Bolero King was a winner of his previous two starts and weaker grade and sat wide on pace and fought on very well in the straight to hold third. Nieta was every chance in the run and I would be forgiving to Fell Swoop who raced wide throughout and knocked up in the straight. Going forward a very tight finish with just 1.8 lengths separating the first seven across the line which is not a recipe for strong form lines, however Spright was very good and can be worth following this preparation.

Race 4 – Emancipation Stakes (1500m)

Note – Just the 1.7 lengths from first to last in the end and it was Prompt Response who held off the challengers in the straight after sitting forward in the run to score over Oregon’s Day who sat just behind the leaders however just couldn’t sprint as sharp as the winner. Still a good effort. Dixie Blossoms sat at the tail and sprinted well however was just left a too big a task with the slow pace of the race. Another that was a very good effort. Going forward I would be sticking with Dixie Blossoms who ran on well and was just left too big a task from her position in the run. She is quality and will be winning again very soon.

Race 5 – Tulloch Stakes (2000m)

Note  – It was race favourite Levendi in a tight finish who saluted in this event after enjoying a nice run behind the speed he got to the middle of the straight and wore down Astoria in second who had a very similar run to the winner and Weather With You who was $21 and led them up into the straight and kicked on strongly. Very little between the first three and they all ran well and put a nice gap back to fourth. Mongolian Marshal was solid however every chance for mine to reel in the placegetters to finish in the money. Outside of the placegetters the run of Belfast was massive in a race dominated by horses closer to the speed he ran on from last on turning to make up many lengths and I would be forgiving to Primitivo who raced wide throughout.  Going forward happy to be with any of the placegetters next start as they all ran well on pace and look like they will handle an extra trip.

Race 6 – Tancred Stakes (2400m)

Note – Strong victory to Almandin who settled in a more forward position behind a strong tempo and kicked on strongly in the straight to hold off the challengers. A very strong staying performance from a class distance horse. The $21 shot Ambitious was second and was given a perfect ride from Craig Williams. However found the class was a bit too much. Who Shot Thebarman ran on well from the tail to finish third and good effort for something a bit easier next start. The race favourite Gailo Chop was taken on in front and unable to control the speed like last start. It was a solid performance and I wouldn’t be jumping off just yet. Single Gaze was yet again solid working to the line. Going forward I want to be with Almandin in any other runs this preparation at full fitness and racing well he is a serious top class stayer.

Race 7 – Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m)

Note – An excellent front running ride from Michael Dee on Hiyaam saw her salute. She jumped well and was perfectly rated in front and kicked strongly to hold off the challengers in the straight. Unforgotten was well backed and ran on well for second after spotting the leader and winner 10 lengths on turning she kept working to the line. Aloisia was a another very good effort after being trapped three wide for the trip she ran on well in the straight and looks ready to win very soon. I’m not sure Alizee who had a nice run saw out the trip in running fourth. The three placegetters were easily the best runs of the race and I wouldn’t be looking too much further back than these as they have a big gap over the rest of the other fillies I feel.

Race 8 – Doncaster Prelude (1500m)

Note – Another win for the very consistent Cellarman who sat midfield and got the gap at the 200m and sprinted to well to score. He just turning up and performing since October last year. War horse! Ecuador was second and sat outside the leader and fought on strongly as he was under siege in the straight from many challengers. A nice effort from Mister Sea Wolf in third, who sat wide throughout and kicked on strongly to in the straight. A good effort for something a bit easier next start. Off the beaten brigade Radipole led them up and fought on well in the straight in what was a solid performance. The three Goldolphin I would be putting just fair next to all three they looked to have their chances. One I thought that ran well at a huge price was Montauk who will pick up something soon at Randwick when he steps up in journey. He found the line well late. Going forward it’s an very even bunch of runners where luck in running plays a big part in the finish, however it’s hard to knock Cellarman who just keep performing well week in week out.

Race 9 – Sydney West App Handicap (1400m)

Note – The progressive Osbourne Bulls swept down the middle of the straight from a slightly worse than midfield position to score running away in what was a good performance. Miss Que was very good in second sitting outside the leader in a race that suited swoopers and fought on well. Worth following next start. Special Missile in third was a solid performance after sitting just behind the speed however every chance for mine to win the event. Good for something a bit weaker. The best of the beaten brigade was Tribal Wisdom who raced very wide and only knocked up in the final 100m in what was a good effort. Wouldn’t be writing off Beau Geste came down he inside which wasnt the best part of the track and was second up. Will be looking for an improved effort next start from him and I would be checking the stewards report over Stonebrook who was eased down from the event half down the straight he is better that effort.
