Runners to watch: Rosehill, September 23rd

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Rosehill.

Race reviews: Rosehill, September 23rd

Race 1 – Nathan’s Famous Hotdogs Handicap (1300m)

Note – Beau Geste got the job done in a tight three way finish. He received a good run in transit and was too strong over. Our Mantra who ran well in running second however was every chance to win the race. Paret in third was probably the run of the race. Last on the turn and green as grass in the run to the line. Should have finished closer.

Race 2 – Colin Stephen Quality (2400m)

Note – Small field of five but another very tight finish. The inform Auvray came from back in the field and in driving three horse war held off Admiral Jello on the track and in the stewards room after things got tight at the 200m mark and a protest was lodged. Broadside in third was every chance in running third.  These three were six lengths ahead of the other two.

Race 3 – TAB Highway Handicap (1500m)

Note – Don’t Give A Damn bolted in winning by over 6 lengths and looks above average. Sitting behind the leader he powered away in the straight. Delivered in second was solid working to the line to run second and Motime did well to hold onto third after racing wide. However it was all about the winner who will be winning more races.

Race 4 – Ranvet Handicap (2000m)

Note – Alward bounced back to score narrowly after receiving a good ride from Bowman. He was just a bit too strong for odds on pop Up’N’Rolling who was tightened for a run at the top the straight, not sure if made too much of difference in the result. Zaunkonig was good finishing third after leading them up and looks ready to win in something a bit weaker.

Race 5 – Shannon Stakes (1500m)

Note  – Excellent victory from Washington Heights coming from last on the turn to round them up and win going away in slick time. Mighty Lucky ran on well to run second at a big price after being specked at $101. Imposing lass did well to hold third after setting a strong early speed. Favourite Dawn Wall was disappointing miss the place after having a good run. Euro Angel was always near the tail and offered nothing in the run

Race 6 – Gloaming  Stakes (1800m)

Note – Ace High lead from barrier to box to win over Sanctioned who sat just behind the winner. These two cleared right away from third and are the two to be followed out of the event. Coral Coast battled on well for third and good for something easier. Favourite Astoria worked to the line ok however never looked a winning chance. The race was all about the first two

Race 7 – Golden Rose (1400m)

Note – The pace was on here with stablemates The Mission & Perast setting a strong early speed. Trapeze Artist caused a boil over bolting in by over 4 lengths and at the huge price. Excellent performance. Blinkers on did the trick! Champagne Cuddles very good running second and was just too far back. Menari  ran third and was disappointing on face value with a similar run to the winner however just didn’t quicken like Trapeze Artist.  The run of Assimilate I thought was good a long way back and wide and did hit the line well

Race 8 – Golden Pendant (1400m)

Note – Brave win by Daysee Doom sitting wide on the speed and holding them all at bay down the straight. She never runs a bad race. Dixie Blossoms the stablemate was good in running second, however every chance to beat the winner. Omei Sword solid in running third but not the horse she promised to be early in her career. Thought the run of $101 shot Zenalicious was very good for something abit easier, she hit the line hard. Bonny O’Reilly who was well in the market was unplaced however was fair in the run.

Race 9 – Handicap (1400m)

Note – Very dominate win by Sir Plush leading the whole way to win by almost 4 lengths. Talented horse when he brings his best. Hogmanay ran good to finish second however posed no threat to the winner. The warm favourite Zumbelina was just fair in running third.
