Race 1 – Kia Ora Stud Handicap (2200m)
Note – Huge run and win from $26 Hand It In sitting 3-4 wide for the entire trip he kicked strongly in the straight to win very comfortably on the line by almost three lengths. Race favourite Equipped raced slightly worse than midfield and ran on soundly to the line however never really looked a winning chance. Richard Of Yorke was another who ran on soundly after sitting midfield on the fence to finish third. Mandalay Bay came really wide on turning however was a bit plain. Not much else made much of an impression on the event. Going forward I’m not to enthused to be backing runners out of this event due to the ease of the winner. I would be happy to take on anything opening short out of this at their next starts.
Race 2 – Vinery Stud Handicap (1100m)
Note – Nice victory to Akasaki who settled well back and wide in the run. Peeled to the outside and let down sharply to score over Raiden in second who was slowly away and settled back in the field and weaved a passage through the field to run second and arguably should have won. Good effort. Nic’s Vendetta was the best of the on pace runners leading them up and kicked strongly in the straight and only over run in the final 150m. Of the beaten bridge Ziggy Willie was a nice performance sitting very wide in the run and running on well. Malahat was a solid performance working to the line from a midfield position. The hot pot Cradle Mountain on face value was very disappointing sitting forward and was gone not long after turning. Better than that. I would be checking the steward’s report. Going forward I liked the effort of Raiden off a freshen up and a repeat performance should have him winning soon and the honest Nic’s Vendetta who was very good on pace fighting on well.
Race 3 – Woodlands Stakes (1200m)
Note – Heavily backed favourite Pretty In Pink was very impressive sitting well back and wide she came the widest on turning and won easily on the line. Good effort and only second career start. Invictus Salute was second and had a similar run to the winner. It was a solid performance the winner was just a class above. Lady Of Shalott was another in a very similar position and let down solid enough to finish third however never really looked a winning chance. Miss Invincible every chance in fourth and these four were the first four in betting put a nice margin back to the rest. So I wouldn’t be looking to much further back. Going forward the winner was impressive and well tried. Expecting further improvement after looking a touch green on turning we can follow her with confidence.
Race 4 – 3yo Guineas (1400m)
Note – Moss Trip won well after sitting towards the tail off a strong early speed she let down sharply in the straight to win eased down at the end. Assimilate was a touch slowly away an ran on soundly for second however no match for the winner. You could almost copy and paste the same again for Frolic in third ran on soundly from the tail without looking a winning threat. The best run outside of the winner was from Reflectivity who sat a strong pace and kicked strongly in the straight only to be rundown in the final 150m. I was a good effort off a four week freshen up. Race favourite and the well backed Villermont looked to every chance for mine. He might be looking for the paddock. Going forward the winner was very impressive however did have race conditions to suit so a touch weary and Reflectivity was excellent on pace and will be better for the run.
Race 5 – Emirates Park Stakes (1100m)
Note – Very strong win to the unbeaten In Good Time who made it 6 from 6. Sitting second behind a tearaway leader she kicked strongly in the straight to scramble over the line from She Knows trailed the winner and headed it at the 200m however found In Good Time just to strong. Still a solid performance. Sheikha was easy in betting however looked the winner at the 200m mark once she got the split however just found the first two just a touch to strong late. Envy Of All was a good performance fresh however every chance for mine to take out the event. Better for that effort. The Goldolphin pair Resin & Demerara both were well back and came very wide on turning. They both found the line well late. Sasso Corbaro was last on turning and worked to the line. Fair performance however better for the run. Going forward the winner was very tough and continues to win so no need to jump off yet. The runs of both Resin & Demerara did catch the eye. They just got to far back in a race dominated by runners on speed.
Race 6 – Luskin Star Stakes (1300m)
Note – Courtesy of a nice ride Osborne Bulls won after sitting midfield he obtained a needle eye split at the 200m mark and darted through to score over Red Excitement who sat just behind the speed and ran on well once the gap came, he just found the winner a touch too good today. It was a nice first up effort though. Invincible Gem finished third and was well tried in betting. She was trapped wide throughout and ran on well late. It was a good effort and arguably should of won the event. Interesting run from one of the beaten runners was Sons Of John who was angling for a rails run and suffered severe interference. It would have been in the finish if the luck came its way. Going forward I want to be with Invincible Gem who had a tough run and ran on well. She is ready to win.
Race 7 –Dark Jewel Classic (1300m)
Note – Tight finish in this and it was Siren’s Fury saluting enjoying a nice rails run just behind the speed she didn’t have to go around a horse and wore down the leader Schism who led and kicked strongly in the straight in the shadows of the post. Ghisoni in third sat outside the leader in the run and just found the first two a shade too good today. Of the beaten runners, I liked the run of Slow Burn who sat wide throughout and kicked on strongly in the straight to finish just over a length from the winner and Nurse Kitchen who was first up for a year and showed above average ability when last racing. She was last on turning and worked to the line very well. Going forward I’m interested in Nurse Kitchen once she gets to around a mile or more. Nice first up performance off a very long layoff.
Race 8 – Ortensia Stakes (1100m)
Note – Hot speed in this and it set it up for the swoopers and it was To Excess who peeled out to the middle of the track and sprinted well to win in impressive fashion over Le Cordon Bleu who was last on turning and ran on strongly late out wide to run second however never looked a threat to the winner. Spending To Win was very good running third sittng just behind the speed he kicked strongly in the straight and was the best of the runners who raced forward in the event. I would be very forgiving to Glenall who almost fell at the start which ended its chances. Going forward stick with the winner who was first up today and has an excellent second up record as well and Spending To Win who has been a model of consistency and was very good again.
