Runners to watch: Warwick Farm, December 23rd

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Warwick Farm.

Race 1 – Merry Christmas from ATC Plate (1200m)

Note – Condemned scored in the first after having a nice run behind the leaders and proving just a touch to strong over Sokudo who raced wide throughout and did a very good job to hold second. Rock Zone lead them up and held on to third. Futooh in fourth was back and wide and loomed up in the straight and just faded late I would be forgiving for that effort. Akkadian was well tried and found a bit of trouble in the straight and worked to the line well. Charge was a notable drifter in betting and looked to have every chance in the run. Going forward not a strong event, however both Sokudo & Akkadian should be picking up races soon.

Race 2 – tab.com.au Handicap (1600m)

Note – Very small field of three greeted the starter and it was Scream Park winning very comfortably by almost three lengths over Colesberg in second who sat last in the run and took off early to try and make a race of it but was no match for the winner. Choice Harvest offered very little in third after leading early. Not much to get excited about here. The winner was a class above these two.

Race 3 – Boxing Day At Royal Randwick Handicap (1600m)

Note – Cellarman was very good winner in this event. Sitting off the speed and coming the widest on the turn he unleashed a strong sprint to score running away. Last 600m was very good and will be winning more races. King Darci was sound leading and running second, however was every chance for mine to win after dictating the speed. Strike Force finished third and a lot like second had every chance after sitting outside the leader. Be forgiving to Caerless Choice in fourth who was wound up a long way from home after sitting last in the run. He will be better suited with a stronger pace up front. Going forward stick with the winner in what was a strong effort

Race 4 – TAB Highway Handicap (1400m)

Note – Itsa Fait Accompli scored at $16 and won in strong fashion taking off well before the turn and sitting wide and sticking on well to score over Newtown Bluebag at $20 who sat last in the run and got on the back of the winner turning and ran on well to finish second.  Volpe lead them up and was every chance for mine running third after dictating a slow tempo. Equal favourites Isla Tristana & Roseito both looked to have every chance after having nice runs just behind the speed and were just sound to the line. Another race I won’t be looking at too closely with the long priced winners and average time.

Race 5 – ATC Owners Benefit Card Handicap (2110m)

Note  – Another tough result for punters with outsider of the field Paragon saluted in this after sitting behind the a good tempo peeled out to the middle of the track and grinded away to well to narrowly score over Great Glen who ran them along at a solid tempo and stuck on very well to run second in what was the run of the race. Tumultuous was every possible chance in running third and hugging the fence for the whole trip. Carzoff was a run home fairly to miss the placings. Lead Choreographer was well supported in betting however was a bit plain today. Mornington was under pressure before turning and offered little. Going forward I would be sticking with Great Glen who was strong on pace running second and looks close to a win.

Race 6 – Hyland Boxing Day Sale Sprint (1200m)

Note – Exciting finish with the first 5 across the track and only 0.6 of a length separating them. It was another big result with Wild ‘N’ Famous charging late from well back in the field to score first up. The well tried Bratislava was good on speed running second, sat a touch wide and battled on well. Il Mio Destino lead them up and another who kicked on strongly in the straight to just miss. Short priced favourite Test The World hugged the rails on pace and put in another brave effort. I was impressed with the run of Eusebio first up hitting the line well after getting well back and look’s the one to follow out of the event. And has a very good second up record.

Race 7 – December Handicap (1400m)

Note – The double figure priced winners rolled on with Nancy bouncing back to winning form. Sitting three wide the trip she let down with an excellent sprint to win and hold off the fast finishing Morton’s Fork in second who rattled home from the tail and is looking a coming winner now after two runs back. Supply And Demand was good on pace holding on to run third and looks to have recovered from the poor run in WA. Coolring was sound leading and kicked on well in the straight to just miss the placings. Gold Symphony raced wide throughout and stuck to the task well in the straight. Going forward stick with Morton’s Fork, looks ready to win!

Race 8 – #theraces Handicap (1400m)

Note – The rough results continued with Raijinz saluting at $26 after sitting outside the leader in a race where they walked early on pace. Milwaukee was second and lead them up into the straight and was just outgunned in the final 50m. First and second put a gap into third who was Better Not Blue after sitting behind the leaders was unable to challenge due to slow early speed. All the backmarkers stood little to no chance of catching the leaders with the early pace so I would be forgiving Pipeline.

Race 9 – Australian Turf Club Handicap (1400m)

Note – Noire saluted in the last to restore some sort of order for punters. Sitting behind a good early pace and peeled to the middle of the course to make it three in a row this preparation. Pecans was solid in running second with a very similar run to the winner, These two put a nice gap into third who was Savoureux who was sound on the fence running third at a big price to continue the theme for the day. Of the beaten brigade I thought the run of Medaille was good running on well from the tail. Going forward stick with first and second both racing really well this preparation and no reason to jump off them yet.
