Runners to watch: Warwick Farm, February 10th

Shane Adair race reviews, blackbookers and race notes from Saturday's Sydney metro meeting at Warwick Farm.

Race 1 – Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1100m)

Note – Sandbar got us under way with a nice victory sitting a touch wide just behind the leaders he sprinted quickly to run down the leader Oxford Poet and outgun the favourite Satin Slipper in the shadows of the post to score. Good win. Satin Slipper was second and was behind the eventual winner in the run, possibly just run out of condition in the final 100m. I suspect will be better for the run. Oxford Poet was on debut and ran a nice third. Led them up and kicked on the turn and just run down late. Nice debut. Osorno ran on ok to the line without ever looking the winner. The debut of Tell Me was also quite sound running on soundly after being a drifter in betting. Will be improved with that. Make Em’ Cry dropped out on turning and I would suspect an issue there so I would be forgiving. Going forward Stick with Satin Slipper just ran out of condition late and will be better next start.

Race 2 – Davali Throughbreds Cup (2400m)

Note – Beijing Board made it three in a row with a good strong staying effort. After having a nice run behind the leaders he peeled out and made a strong run and won going away on the line. Multitude was good on pace leading them up and fighting on strongly in the straight was just no match for the winner. Xebec was every possible chance in third. Not sure Gamblestown got the distance. Chatelard was ridden back today and dropped out on the turn. Have a look at the stewards report. Going forward have to stick with the winner he keeps on keeping on and can continue to pick up victories around this class.

Race 3 – Inglis Sprint (1100m)

Note – She Will Reign at the red hot quote of $1.24 got the job done leading and kicking well in the straight to score. Good first up effort without being outstanding. Will be fitter for that run. Acqume was second and ran very well for something a bit easier. She chased the winner hard in the straight and ran her to a length at the finish. Limbo Soul was sound in running third however no match for the first two across the line. Going forward the winner looks to have comeback well and I would be looking to back Acqume in something a bit weaker next start.

Race 4 – TAB Highway Handicap (1200m)

Note – The well specked Star Boy led from barrier to box ($9-$6.5). He gave a good kick in the straight and fought on well to hang on over Under The Thumb who was worse than midfield and rattled to the line late to just miss the winner. Very good effort. Try A Lil Harder sat outside the leader and just couldn’t go with the winner when he kicked at the top of the straight. Soft Top ran on solidly late after getting well back and El Mo who was well in the market battled on soundly to the line after looking under pressure on turning. Going forward stick with Under The Thumb who will be winning back in the bush very soon if he continues to hold his form this preparation.

Race 5 – Inglis Classic (1200m)

Note  – Rough house affair and it was The Enzo who got the job done after sitting midfield and the field spread the width of the straight and he sprinted just two well to salute. Good effort. The well backed race favourite Sanctimonious travelled very wide in the run and fought on well in the straight to just the miss the winner. I would be slightly forgiving for that effort. Pembroke Castle got back and worked to the line in good fashion. Solid performance. A couple that caught my eye was Now Or Never ($41)  who got a long way back and rattled to the line late to go under by just over two lengths. The other was Chamfer ($101)who yes was beaten by 7 lengths however was around 8 lengths of the second last horse on turning and ran on well in the straight. Both worth looking at when they go around next.

Race 6 – Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m)

Note – Very good first up victory to Kementari sitting behind the speed he quickened like the good horse he is to win eased down by almost three lengths. Siege Of Quebec was solid running second forced wide on turning and unable to control the pace he did a good job to finish second and I wouldn’t right off on that effort. Brave Song ran on ok to run third and was a good effort for something a bit easier next start. Goodfella offered very little in the run and was gone on turning. Going forward stick with the winner he is top line!

Race 7 – Breeders Classic (1200m)

Note – Prompt Response was too good for these today after having a nice run just behind the leaders she let down well in the straight to score comfortably. Egyptian Symbol was a solid performance running on soundly in the straight however was just no match for the winner. Danish Twist did what Danish Twist does running on well to run third. Memes went hard in the lead and was just found wanting in the final 200m. Something a bit easier for her will see her close to winning next start. Bonny O’Reilly was a touch easy in betting and was found wanting in the straight. She will be better for that run. Not much else made much of an impression in this event. Going forward stick with the winner in what was a very dominate victory.

Race 8 – Bowness Stud Mile (1600m)

Note – Just the field of five in this event and it was favourite Show A Star being able to lead and dictate and proving to strong over Supply And Demand who tried hard in running second chasing the leader in the straight. These tow put a good margin between them and Testashadow in third who was every chance for mine. Auvray was first up and got a long way back in the run and hit the line as good as anything.  Going forward not a lot to get to excited about however I did like the first up effort of Auvray wait for him getting over 2000+ around 3-4th up this preparation.

Race 9 – Sledmere Stud Dash (1000m)

Note – Easy victory to Fickle Folly in the last sitting just behind a good speed she let down very well in straight to win under hands and heels riding. Bringing up her third win this preparation. Hieroglyphics was easy in betting and drifted well back and ran on well in the straight to run second. Nice first up performance. Khalama  was a similar run to second getting back and working to line however couldn’t make up a lot of ground off the winner in the straight. Artlee wasn’t sighted in the race after sitting a clear last and offering not too much in the straight. Need to see again. Dal Cielo was left in the gates and didn’t go around. Going forward I liked the run of Hieroglyphics fitter for that effort and will be going close next start.
