The global powerhouse that is Godolphin is the focus of today’s Spring Stable Stars. After more than a year as the head trainer in Australia, James Cummings well and truly has his feet under the desk for the blue team and will be keen for a big Spring.
Hartnell
Stable star who’s already back, running in the Group 2 PB Lawrence at Caulfield on Saturday. Goes well fresh and proved that again with a solid run into second. Will be sniffing for another Group 1 this spring.
Best available early odds:
Caulfield Cup: $51
Cox Plate: $81
Melbourne Cup: $101
Kementari
He’s a star, but hard not to think a few pundits were getting carried away when they said he could trouble Winx. Looked the goods in the Missile Stakes a few weeks back, running second, and finished decently in the Winx Stakes. Should have a great campaign.
Best available early odds:
Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes: $15
Cox Plate: $34
Alizee
After beating the likes of Winx in a star-studded trial at Rosehill in early August, the dual Group 2 winner bled at trackwork the following week. Unfortunately this rules her out for the spring, and she’s back to the paddock.
Home Of The Brave
Bit of a world traveller for Godolphin, being a former UK galloper who has also raised in the USA. Now calls Australia home under Cummings’ care. Great Australian debut at the weekend, running second in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star at Flemington.
Best available early odds:
Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes: $21
Osborne Bulls
Bit of a rising star and possibly a late bloomer. Returned in superb style on Saturday at Caulfield, nosing out some handy types to win the Listed Regal Roller Stakes. Could be headed to the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke.
Best available early odds:
Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes: $6.5
Encryption
Returned in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes at Randwick on the weekend. Finished in eighth but probably had much more in the locker with a better run. Nominated for the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas.
Best available early odds:
Golden Rose: $61
Caulfield Guineas: $61
