Stakes Day quaddie tips
The rail stays at 3m and I expect the track to play well again. Later in the day they may get a bit wider.
Race 6 Matriarch Stakes (Group 2) – 2000m
#1 Heavens Above (Hyeronimus / Martin)
Racing consistently. Ran on well last week over 1600m and looks suited at this trip.
#2 Prompt Response (Shinn / Waterhouse & Bott)
Terrific win last week over shorter trip. First try this distance. Maps well and stable is flying.
#3 Flying Jess (Childs / Moloney)
Got too far back last start from wide barrier. Another going to 2000m for first time but has been strong late over shorter trips.
#6 Falika (McEvoy / Eurell)
Terrific record this distance range. Should be strong late and looks the one to beat.
#7 Tahanee (Lane / Weir)
On the quick back-up from Tuesday. Steps out to this trip for 1st time but is coming off a dominant win.
#10 Savapinksi (Avdulla / Waterhouse & Bott)
Ran well at Moonee Valley over shorter trip. First go at the trip but does have a staying pedigree. Maps to roll forward.
Race 7 Darley Classic (Group 1) – 1200m
#1 Chautauqua (Dunn / Hawkes)
Quality sprinter who missed a run at Moonee Valley. Group 1 winner down the straight and ran 2nd in this race in 2014 and 2015 (didn’t run last year).
#2 Redzel (McEvoy / Snowden)
Everest winner who races on the pace. Won down the straight on Oaks Day last year at Listed level.
#3 Vega Magic (Williams / Hayes & Dabernig)
Slightly disappointing in G1 Manikato Stakes after unlucky run in the Everest. Has been up since August.
#5 Malaguerra (Melham / Gelagotis)
Unlucky 2nd up in the Manikato. Won this race last year and is 2/2 down the straight.
#6 Impending (Bowman / Cummings)
Flashed home 1st up behind In Her Time at Randwick. Had a month freshen to get ready for this. Will be hitting the line hard.
#7 Redkirk Warrior (Bayliss / Hayes & Dabernig)
2/2 this track and distance. Had a month off since the Everest. Looks to have solid claims here.
#12 In Her Time (Brown / Smith)
Racing consistently this prep. 1st time down the straight but has solid claims if handles it OK.
Race 8 Emirates Stakes (Group 1) – 2000m
#3 Gailo Chop (Allen / Weir)
Racing well this prep. Solid effort in Cox Plate when raced on speed and just tired late. Has excellent record this distance.
#7 Folkswood (McEvoy / Appleby)
Dominant win 1st up in Cranbourne Cup over this distance. Then terrific run in Cox Plate on speed. Only has to hold rating here.
#15 Cliff’s Edge (Yendall / Weir)
Consistent 3yo who won well at Caulfield two runs ago before being beaten by dominant filly last start. Will race on pace and hard to beat with light weight.
Race 9 Emirates Airline Hcp – 1400m
#2 Muraaqeb (Bayliss / Hayes & Dabernig)
Won well at Moonee Valley then too far back at Caulfield. Goes to trip at 1st time should hold no fears.
#3 Trekking (Avdulla / Cummings)
Not much luck at Caulfield two starts ago and then no luck last start at Moonee Valley. Can improve here.
#4 Andaz (Melham / Waller)
Ran well 1st up and then strong late Derby Day here down the straight out wide. Looks suited to this trip.
#5 Tamasa (Yendall / Weir)
Undefeated Weir colt who flew late after being held up in the straight at Bendigo. Looks progressive type.
#9 Icon Of Dubai (Walker / Snowden)
Won by big margin lesser grade in Sydney 2 runs ago. Then heavily backed at Flemington Turnbull Stakes Day when never in the right part of track. Given freshen up and has blinkers going on. Likely improver.
