kingsford-smith cup, tatt's tiara

The Tatts Tiara – or the Tattersall’s Club Tiara, to give it it’s full name – is a Group 1, fillies and mares weight-for-age race over 1400 metres, held at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane. The race has been a Group 1 event since 2007 and was formerly known as the Winter Stakes. Tatt’s Tiara Day serves as the last major day of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, and the race is the final Group 1 of the Australian racing seson.

SAVATIANO is a bet for me. She pulled up lame last start so can be forgiven, and has trialled very well since. She’s drawn wide but I think she gets over from the gate, and if she does (and if she bounces back off that bad run) she’ll be very hard to beat.

ODEUM is a talented three-year-old against the older horses here. She has drawn wide which is a problem, and JMac will have to go back from that gate you’d think, which might be a bit of an issue. However, she was excellent when wide in the Dane Ripper and I don’t think we’ve seen her top yet. Go well, and trust in JMac to work it out!

TOFANE  had a solid win in the Stradbroke, coming from well back to mow them down. On that she’s obviously a big chance here, and rated well going 114. However, that was a fast pace race and she was really suited by that. This does not look like being run that way at all, and from that gate she will have to stand them a big start.

SUBPOENAED is a solid chance. She’s going to get every chance on the map from the good draw and she is effectively second-up off a let-up. She closed it out okay in the Stradbroke and can improve again. A bet if she drifts a bit.

BROOKLYN HUSTLE is racing well, going 109 and 110 in her last couple. Her issues here are that she’ll probably need a little more than that and she’ll likely get well back, but she’s in form.

MADAM ROUGE has been solid in two runs off a short spell, getting to her top going 110 last start. Is that enough to win here? The last four years the lowest winning rating has been 110, so it would either just win or lose even if she held. In all likelihood she’ll need more than the 110, and given she’ll go back a long way on what looks a moderate pace, that’s a task.

REELEM IN RUBY is a roughie with some chance! She’s going to get every possible on the map, and she was good two back here. She has some figures from Sydney two preps back that are good enough to win here. Worth a little spec for me.
