kingsford-smith cup, tatt's tiara

The Tatts Tiara – or the Tattersall’s Club Tiara, to give it it’s full name – is a Group 1, fillies and mares weight-for-age race over 1400 metres, held at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane. The race has been a Group 1 event since 2007 and was formerly known as the Winter Stakes. Tatt’s Tiara Day serves as the last major day of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, and the race is the final Group 1 of the Australian racing season. Total prizemoney is currently $700,000.

Tatt’s Tiara 2022: Alfie’s preview

Speed Fast… it’ll be on here. Annavisto, Snapdancer and Vangelic will sit in the first three. Away Game will be midfield in the running line. Nudge and Startantes will be back.

3 Annavisto [$5.50] runs well fresh and her best figure is first-up. She takes luck out of the equation and puts herself forward.

1 Snapdancer [$6] won the Group 1 Sangster last start, but needs to step up to 1400m in a fast-run race. Maher and Eustace are the right camp to do it

5 Kiku [$9] will need to improve on her past Group 1 performances to be any chance here.

2 Shout The Bar [$10] can’t be ruled out as her 1600m background might allow her to run out a fast-run 1400m.

4 Away Game [$12] is tough as teak and a Group 1 performer, so we can never rule her out.

10 Atishu [$12] is a Waller horse so cannot be ruled out, but she will certainly need to improve to win.

16 Startantes [$13] has been average at her last three starts, so I can’t have her.

8 Brooklyn Hustle [$15] is one I can never back as she always seems to firm. If she beats me I will wear it.

7 Nudge [$16] will settle back and at some stage will be flying home out wide.

9 Wandabaa [$16] hasn’t performed at Group 1 level before – she failed in the Coolmore Classic in the autumn.

14 Palaisipan [$31] won the Group 2 Dane Ripper last start, but another step up is required here.

11 Charmmebaby [$34] is another last start winner at Listed level, but it’s tough to take the big step up this this.

20 April Rain [$41] will need a fair improvement to be competitive here.

It would really surprise if any of the rest took this out… 15 Bring The Ransom [$51], 19 Dzsenifer [$67], 18 Salateen [$21], 12 Written Beauty [$34], 21 Tycoon Evie [$101], 6 Vangelic [$41], 17 Enchanted Heart [$61] and 13 Yamazaki [$71].

Betting strategy

Annavisto and Nudge are the horses that I want to be with. Annavisto, who runs well fresh and will be up on speed, is a natural pick here. I’ll also be having something smaller on Nudge after she flashed home last start. The pace will be fast and if they end up going a little too quick, she’ll be the one coming from the back.
