The Everest 2020: The Contenders

Odds displayed are from Australia’s favourite bookmaker, TopSport (odds updated 24th September).

Nature Strip: currently $3.90 with TopSport (Confirmed starter – TAB slot)

Australia’s star sprinter is favourite to taste The Everest 2020 glory. Ran fourth in the race in 2019 before smashing the field in the Group 1 VRC Sprint Classic, and returning in Autumn to win the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes with ease. Beaten at short odds by Gytrash in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes on return.

Classique Legend: currently $6 with TopSport (Confirmed starter – Bon Ho slot)

Bon Ho was understandably keen to run his own horse in his slot for The Everest 2020. Impressive win in the Listed Bob Charley AO Stakes at Randwick in June, before returning with a win in the Group 2 Shorts at Randwick, which saw him shorten significantly for The Everest.

Gytrash: currently $6 with TopSport (Confirmed starter – Inglis slot)

The upset winner of the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning, South Australian Gytrash will run in the Inglis slot in The Everest 2020. Returned in the Group 3 Concorde at Randwick with a barnstorming run to upset Nature Strip.

Rothfire: currently $6.50 with TopSport (Confirmed starter – miEverest slot)

The star Queensland sprinter capped off a fantastic two-year-old season by winning the Group 2 Champagne Classic and the Group 1 JJ Atkins, both at Eagle Farm. After being locked in for a start with the miEverest slot, Rothfire produced a stunning win in the Group 2 Run To The Rose to shorten significantly in Everest betting.

Behemoth: currently $12 with TopSport (Confirmed starter – The Star slot)

Purchased for just $6,000 and trained in South Australia by David Jolly, the big gelding has been a revelation so far this spring. Secured a slot after two straight Group 1 wins in the Memsie Stakes and the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.

Bivouac: currently $13 with TopSport

Godolphin star who is surely odds-on to fill their slot in The Everest 2020. Two-time Group 1 winner, including the Newmarket Handicap in March. Finished third in The Shorts behind Classique Legend.

Farnan: currently $14 with TopSport

The gun three-year-old coming off an awesome two-year-old spring campaign in which he won the Group 2 Silver Slipper, the Group 2 Todman Stakes and the Group 1 Golden Slipper. Returned with a somewhat disappointing fifth in the Run To The Rose.

Anders: currently $16 with TopSport

Everybody sat up and took notice after a dominant front-running win in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes. Extremely exciting colt.

Tofane: currently $19 with TopSport (Confirmed starter – Yulong Investments slot)

A Group 1 winner after capturing the All Aged Stakes over 1400 metres at Randwick in April. Will run in the Yulong Investments slot.

Trekking: currently $20 with TopSport

Godolphin gelding coming off a hectic calendar year, where the highlight has been the Group 1 Goodwood win in Adelaide.

Haut Brion Her: currently $21 with TopSport

Quality Waller mare who caught plenty of attention with a strong win in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes over 1200 metres.
