Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes Emirates Stakes Day Quaddie tips

Stakes Day Quaddie Preview

It’s the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival, headlined by the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes, and pro-punter Trevor Lawson has your Stakes Day Quaddie tips sorted.

Race 6 – Matriarch Stakes (2000m)

Selections: 2, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12

SAVVY COUP (2) is Group 1 winning NZ mare, was well beaten in the Cox Plate but a good record at this distance. KENEDNA (7) has been racing consistently and getting fitter each run. Has run well at this distance. SHEEZDASHING (8) hasn’t had much luck this prep. Has run well at this distance, likely improver. NETTOYER (9) had a big win last start when suited by the speed. Good record at this distance, will be getting home hard. TEMPLE OF BEL (11) is a backmarker with exceptional sectionals in past two starts. Looks ready for 2000m. AQUA D’IVINA (12) is an improving mare who produced good figures last start over 1800m. Looks ideally suited at 2000m.

Race 7 – VRC Sprint Classic (1200m)

Selections: 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 12

REDZEL (1) has had a slight freshen-up since Everest win. Similar prep to last year when he won this. Can maintain rating. SANTA ANA LANE (3) produced a big figure two starts back. Consistent horse, will be running on well REDKIRK WARRIOR (4) has a terrific record down the straight. First-up since overseas tilt. Can run to best here. PIERATA (6) had a super win in the Everest consolation race, running a faster time than the main race. Good quality horse, first run this way of going. KEMENTARI (7) wasn’t suited when going back from wide barrier on biased Valley track. Will get home hard here. IN HER TIME (12) is a consistent mare who ran well first-up and then failed on the heavy – prepared to forgive.

Race 8 – Mackinnon Stakes (2000m)

Selections: 3

BLAIR HOUSE (3) had no luck in first Australian run, when slow away and too far back. Super run last start behind Benbatl, who franked form with second in Cox Plate behind Winx. Only has to hold rating here.

Race 9 – Grand Handicap (1100m)

Selections: 1, 2, 9, 11, 13

SHERIFF JOHN STONE (1) is racing well at the moment. Had excuses last start and has run well down straight in the past. Drawn out wide which looks an advantage. ESPERANCE (2) had no luck in the 955m at the Valley when drawn off the track. Previous runs in Sydney were good, and has raced well this way of going in the past. EURACK (9) is an unbeaten mare who resumes for new stable here. Trialled brilliantly leading into this. ORDER OF COMMAND (11) resumes here. Ran terrifically down the straight last prep. Looks a target race. AS IT LIES (13) flew first-up at Bendigo. Not sure if can repeat here, but doesn’t have to to be competitive.
