Rosehill racecourse, the galaxy

The Vinery Stud Stakes – officially named the Storm Queen Stakes – is a 2,000m Group 1 race for three-year-old fillies, held at Rosehill Racecourse in autumn. Total prizemoney is $500,000. The race is named after Storm Queen, who won the 1967 Golden Slipper as well as many other feature races. The Vinery Stud Stakes is the main lead-up race for the Australian Oaks, which is held at Randwick later in the Autumn. The Vinery Stud Stakes is run on Tancred Stakes Day.

HUNGRY HEART was a strong winner of the Phar Lap over the 1500m, a key lead-in race, and has already rated there more than enough to win this usually (Verry Elleegant is the only winner of this race that has rated higher in the last four years). She’s already rated a little better than that and the 2000m looks ideal. Very hard to beat

HARMONY ROSE put in a solid run in the Randwick Guineas and can get an excellent run on the speed here. Some were stronger late than her last start, but her run didn’t end and I think she’ll get the 2000m here. She gets her chance, but she is well found by the real market.

PERSONAL The VRC Oaks winner is fitter for two runs back and out to 2000m now, which is obviously no concern for her! Her Grand Final will likely be in the Oaks in two weeks, however she’ll no doubt be primed to try to take this out on the way through – this is the key lead-in race for the Oaks after all. She’s drawn wide but has JMac on and I think they can push on and get outside the lead if they choose to. Or they can go back and look for a trail somewhere, which might mean she has to go back to last. Little bit of a tricky situation there… but this is a class filly

IMPECUNIOUS is an improver out to the 2000m. She came home nicely for third in the Phar Lap, where she lacked the brilliance of the winner but gave every indication she would keep going over the extra 500m. That’s a big plus. She’ll be fitter for that second-up run and Oliver on is a plus.

FORCE OF WILL is an NZ visitor in her first first look at Australia… but I do have NZ ratings and she has been going OK over there. She needs a new level but in an astute yard, they don’t bring them over for no reason!
