horse racing tips june 27, vobis sires guineas

One of the big-money (but lower profile) racedays on the Victorian racing calendar is the Victorian Owners and Breeders Raceday. Held at Caulfield Racecourse on a Saturday in April, it features a series of races that are strictly for Victorian-bred horses.

The biggest races on the day are The Showdown for two-year-olds, worth $1 million, and the VOBIS Sires Guineas for three-year-olds, worth $500,000. Champion Bets pro punter Trevor Lawson previews the VOBIS Sires Guineas…

VOBIS Sires Guineas 2022: Trevor Lawson’s preview

Track The rail is out to 6m. It should play pretty fair, it generally does in that position. It’s currently a Heavy 6 but there doesn’t look to be much more rain coming… so it should be a Good track, or pretty close to it

Speed The speed is pretty good here. There’s several going forward inside and a few wider as well, so it should be genuinely run. Eventually will probably lead.

Runner-by-runner

TOBAYSURE [$2.80] is racing well. He was good last start when led and was eased down late, indicating he had more to give. Reckon he can run to a new level here and is the horse to beat.

DON DIEGO [$3.60] was slow away last start before working home well. He looks suited out to this trip. He’s drawn wide but that may not be an issue with the pace on offer here.

CHARTRES [$4.60] presents here third-up out of the Zeditave and the Bendigo Guineas. Has was okay at Bendigo, running fourth, and should be fitter here. He’s also drawn wide but again, with the solid pace it shouldn’t be a concern.

THE CLAIMANT [$15] ran home strongly last start to win in a slowly-run race at Cranbourne. He should strip fitter here third-up and still looks to be on the up. Rough chance for mine.

SACHEM [$17] was okay first-up at Geelong. He also strips fitter here and gets a good run on the map, but may lack the class. Another rough chance.

BLUSHING TYCOON [$20] was okay first-up but then terrible last start at Mornington. He gets a wide barrier here which is a slight negative. Another roughie.

DAYAN STAR [$26] is returning off a short break here. He would need to improve off past runs to be a prominent chance here. Only a very rough chance.

EVENTUALLY [$26] led in a fast-run race in Adelaide and fought on really well to run second. She can definitely improve on that here and maps to find the front again.

ENUFF HE SAID [$34] is third-up here, stepping out in trip and gets blinkers for the first time. He should be able to run to new peak.

AIRCLASH [$71] hasn’t been suited either run this prep. He’s out in trip now but could be in an awkward spot on the map.

MATTASH [$101], TAUTY [$101] and RIVERINA CYCLONE [$26] are outclassed here.

Tip

I agree with the market in that it’s largely a race in three. Tobaysure and Don Diego look too short… for mine Chartres looks the best value of the three. Hopefully he sneaks out to $5 or so and gives us some value.
